...I hope Microsoft fixes this bad update soon.
As my colleague Susan's keeps saying, Microsoft needs "dead bodies." Open a no-charge support incident about the failed update so they know you're having a problem, too.

I needed my machine working, so I rolled back the updates and did an in-place upgrade of 7 pro 64. Then did updates but not the bad one. The updated my antivirus and drivers. Now I have a machine I can work on. Took me 2 days, but now I hope Microsoft fixes this bad update soon.

Same offer applies for anyone with the funky error and inability to open up a program, can I open a free professional support case for you? Please please please I cannot stress enough how important this is to get machines and info to Microsoft. Someone from Microsoft has reached out to me to ask for specs of machines/hardware info and the best way I can get this to them is open up a support case. Email me at susan-at-msmvps.com (change the -at- to an @) and I will need your phone number so that someone from Microsoft can call you back.
For anyone else who doesn't want to work with me on a support case, if you have a system impacted by a BSOD, (and I know this is a huge huge ask) I need you to boot with repair media or move the drive to another machine and dig out the cbs.log file ( located in %windir%\Logs\CBS folder or c:\windows\logs\cbs and email me a zipped up copy of that log file or park it on a skydrive folder. Microsoft is asking for more info to make sure they are capturing all of the data here.
Again, I know this is a huge ask, I know you don't feel too generous with Microsoft right now. But bottom line there's a ton of hardware out here and sometimes they don't have everything that is sold and can't repro it internally without our help.
I deeply thank anyone in advance if you can take time out and help.

Since I got quoted here:
The problem is not with the update. I have many Windows 7 machines with this update installed. I don't want everyone to rush out and uninstall the update if they are seeing no issues.
My computer will not install this update. Four tries. Used repair disk with external backup to restore each time. Windows 7, Pentium T4400, Intel graphics. Three newer machines in my home had no problem. Guess I'll have to live without this protection or ditch otherwise perfectly functional laptop.
