Why does dllhost.exe Com surrogate consumes memory untill crash

So Uninstall IE10 and KB2670838 update, hide them from auto updating when thy pop back up to be updated the problem should be fixed.

Yes, this worked perfectly for me.  IE10 finally renders CSS correctly, so I'll miss it.  But at least my memory is not leaking all over.

Why does dllhost.exe  Com surrogate consumes memory untill crash.

It happens when I highlight or view a folder containing video files, Even if I close the folder or select a different folder the memory keeps getting consumed.

It seems to happen mostly with 3D Video files but it has done the same with 2D files.

So it seems to be a problem with the windows thumb nail system dealing with these files.

By the way trying to delete or move the file or folder while the Com Surrogate is consuming memory Delete can not complete the task.

What I have been doing is finding offending file selecting Delete, then go to task manager stopping Com Surrogate, then the file will delete.

Ok Guys and Gals here is the scoop or what I have found out.

Went to paid MS Support started a ticket gave them the info of the problem.

Before haveing to pay I backed out but It will still leave a ticket req on the system.

Them I did a masive searck on this problem and ran into this and I beleve it to be true. It's the way they handled a simmilar problem In Vista.

So here it is.

"MS are aware of problems with certain chipset/driver combinations and the KB2670838 update

They are also aware of problems with the IE10 install

They are working on both issues, and will update as and when they are satisfied that they have solved the problems.

The recommendation in the meantime is that if the update doesn't install first time, make sure it's uninstalled, and then hide it - Windows Update will unhide it when it is updated."

Most of the MS API's, .dlls and .exe were left in tact.  I did not stop all start up programs. I chose the ones that I could identfiy easily, such as acro reader updating programs, and MS office project sharing programs that I don't use. Now my system is running perfectly.  

While I agree turning off 3d party auto start programs can be helpful in preserving extended memory for running intensive programs, and I do so as You said for Adobe, I manually update it My self instead of auto update.

I assure You that no programs preload except MS programs as they are designed to do + My video card driver and Sound card driver and as stated in My earlier post's I have even done a clean boot with minimum items to boot with GUI and the problem persists so it can not be Adobe, Video driver or sound driver making this happen.

Nothing but the OS running in Clean boot.

I am not a programmer nor can I spend Hours upon hours debugging to find exactly what part of this update makes this happen but My guess is that it has a H.264 video decoder as part of the install and it does not agree with My current codec or hardware decoder/encoder.

There are plenty of work around's I coud use like turning off thumbnails and using a 3d party thumb program, or renaming and or encoding the *.mp4 files to *.avi,*.mpg or any other format.

The thing is the OS is there to help me work, not Me working on the OS.

Sorry, but I cannot believe this!

Firstly, I do not use any MS office products, Kaspersky or Adobe reader. So disabling them could not possibly help me.

Sedondly, what kind of advice is this? Randomly and without deeper knowledg disabling automatically started programs?! That is not something that could be reliable reproduced for a specific fix and it is dangerous and can have any number of side effects.

Thirdly, if you really have that kind of hardware, you should be ably to run dozens of preloaders, schedulers and bloatware and not even notice them. With my 7 gigs it took over an hour to notice the memory leak. And even then it was only because there was a short freeze and then an error that I have not enough memory.

If your system was not "running perfectly" before, there is the possibilty that you had malware, that you now have disabled from starting. And maybe you had features on, that reduce the perceived performance. When I first upgraded my old xp system to a ssd, the load time of the navigation bar in my browser took about a second to show suggestions based on my chronic and with the ssd it went down to instantly. Those little waiting times make the perception of a system "slow". But you say you aldread have eliminated this bottleneck. Waiting times for responses over the net might be another source for perceived slowness. Or if you define "fast system" with booting. A ton of schedulers and such to load on boot time would slow down the responsiveness shortly after booting, but no more.

So to summarize: you claim you have KB2670838 on your system, have 3D-mp4 files and could not generate thumbnails for them but can now, because you deactivated MS Office / Adobe preloaders, schedulers and the like? But you cannot link this fix to any specific autostart program you deactivated?

Note: the leak on my system could be "fixed" by renaming my only 3D-mp4 to mkv, because there are no thumbnails generated for mkvs on my system.
