    Hi Ashi,

Thank you for upgrading to Windows 8. I see that you want to know where some of the basic applications are.

    To show all apps,

1.You can press the Windows key to bring up the Start screen and then just type the name of the program you want to use.

2.You can also right click while on the Start screen and select "All Apps" on the bottom pane to show all the apps.

You can use this article to get to know Windows 8 better.

    Hi,

    Two locations...

    One for logged in User...

    C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

    Another for others...

    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

The Win 7 type Start Menu sometimes combined files from both in it's All Programs list.

You can make a shortcut to your desktop.

You may have to "Show Hidden Files and Folders" to find Program Data

Also, StarDock has an app called Start 8 for $5 that restores the Win 7 style start start button and features. It will also bypass the start screen and go directly to the desktop should you so choose.

programs like accessories like calculator,  note pad, painter , ms word etc.

Just where you imagined them to be, grouped under the label Windows Accessories.   Unfortunately there is no easy way to find that category using the keyboard--you need to use your eyes to find it.   E.g.  a keyboard user would see it by pressing Win, Win-Z, Enter and then, if necessary, Ctrl--  In fact, from that view you could press  CursorRight a few times and then press Enter and be returned with keyboard focus where your eye might have landed after the first Enter.

    Touch users on the other hand only have to get into the Start Screen (swipe from the right and tap), swipe up, tap, pinch (extra hard) and then they can see it.   So intuitively obvious.  So useful.   ;  }

    Hi All,

From the Start Screen - Right Click then on lower right - All Apps - Windows Accessories>

In the Windows Store there is a free program called "Windows 8 Cheat Keys" which is a good

tutorial especially for those without a Touch Screen. It would be even better if it were inteactive

so that clicking on a "Hotkey" description would also perform that function.

I keep a text file of Windows 8 Hotkeys on the Desktop which is handy. Too bad that is also not

interactive. It is 8-Keys and is accessible on my SkyDrive.

Sure which some enterprising programmer would create a combination of "Windows 8 Cheat Keys"

and 8-keys so the actions would run from both the Start Screen as an App and from the DeskTop as a

    an Application.

I note that C:\Program Files is still in Windows 8.

It seems that Program Files is laid out like in all the previous versions of Windows.

So one option is, I can create one .HTM file with links to all the executable files in Program Files and click on the links to get to the various programs. The .HTM file will show up in the default browser and I can organize it and have the title be All Programs since Windows 8 doesn't do that for me.

    Thanks.

    George
