Windows store does not open - missing PurgeCaches

Windows store does not open; always goes back to start screen. When I opened, wsreset.exe, then I got this error message...

Windows cannot find 'ms-windows-store:PurgeCaches'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.

What should I do? Note that the store actually works in other user account.

Please run the following in a Command Window to re-register the Store app:

powershell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $Env:SystemRoot\WinStore\AppxManifest.xml

Don't do anything else other than cutting and running this code make sure you do nothing else other than Running this.

powershell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $Env:SystemRoot\WinStore\AppxManifest.xml

I wish i have known this before i re-freshed my wndows 8. What happened to me was that i deleted the packages folder C:\Users\**********\AppData\Local\Packages\.* i thought it was temp files or cache. Microsoft should change the location of this package folder or add recognizable name such as Store Apps Packages.

Thanks for your help.

Running    powershell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $Env:SystemRoot\WinStore\AppxManifest.xml   at the command line (Search->Run->cmd.exe) is the answer! I've been having this problem for months and this finally fixed it. THANK YOU TO WHOMEVER FIGURED THIS OUT!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi Sherry,

A restore didn't do it nor did rolling back the OS to a previous build of 10 (when all was well), thought one of these would have been my savior but no such luck. Tried so many things such as suggested here and elsewhere (list is a mile long) yet we keep ending up with the same results, the app store along w/several apps fail to open, the one error being the most prevalent is "ms-windows-store"PurgeCaches"... "The app didn't start"... No updates applied have been the saving grace either which isn't a surprise.

So as you mentioned, I think were at our "last resort" and being that this isn't the only PC looking to get a complete overhaul (unrelated problems but same end result), can say that MS and W10 are not on my "nice" list this year especially now that Xmas is just around the corner.

    Hello,

Just to confirm, what troubleshooting steps have you done and what were the results? If all the troubleshooting steps listed on this thread failed to fix the issue, then reinstalling the operating system would be the last resort. You can download the Media Creation Tool to create a windows 10 installer or download the ISO file from this link. Instruction on using the tool can be found on the given link.

    Regards.
