optimize drives The parameter is incorrect. (0x80070057)

cant optimize one of my storage drives. its starts of analyzing drive then just never actually does a defrag.

in event viewer im getting this error for the drive in question: "was not optimised because an error was encountered: The parameter is incorrect. (0x80070057)".

the drive passes error checking with no problems.

any help would be greatly appreciated

I finally found a solution that worked for me here:

Open an Administrator command prompt and make use of fsutil:

fsutil usn deletejournal /D <volume pathname>

fsutil usn createjournal m=<max-value> a=<alloc-delta> <volume pathname>

Eg :

fsutil usn deletejournal /D C:

fsutil usn createjournal m=1000 a=100 C:

After using these commands I was able to defragment C: without an error showing up in the event viewer. I'm not sure if this is a permanent or temporary fix, and someone mentioned in that thread that it didn't work with a server so YMMV.

Run the Windows Update troubleshooter
1. Open the Windows Update troubleshooter by swiping in from the right edge of the screen, tapping Səarch (or if you're using a mouse, pointing to the upper-right corner of the screen, moving the mouse pointer down, and then clicking Səarch), entering Troubleshooting in the səarch box, tapping or clicking Settings, and then tapping or clicking Troubleshooting. Under System and Security, tap or click Fix problems with Windows Update.
2. Run the troubleshooter, then open Windows Update and try to install the update again.
Run the DISM tool
1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Səarch.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Səarch.)
1. Enter command prompt in the səarch box.
2. In the list of results, swipe down on or right-click Command Prompt, and then tap or click Run as administrator.
3. In the Administrator: Command Prompt window, type the following commands. Press the Enter key after əach command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
1. To close the Administrator: Command prompt window, type Exit, and then press Enter.
2. Run Windows Update again

i tried all the above, got on error on "DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth"

The restore operation failed. Either the repair source was not found or the comp

onent store cannot be repaired.

Error: 0x800f081f

now windows update is completely broken i wont install anything :/

it didnt fix the original optimize drive error either

I removed my fix as the error came back....im still at a loss why this is happening
