I just can't figure out how to create desktop shortcuts for both Internet Explorer and Mail. It's awkward having to keep going to and fro from the Start Menu. Can anyone help please?

To create a desktop shortcut for any program, right-drag its exe
file to the desktop. Let go of the mouse button, and on the menu you
get, choose "Create shortcut here."

Bravo GregSB; many thanks for this. I was on the verge of asking my technical friend to wipe my new laptop clean and install windows 7. You've kept me in the windows 8 community, for now. The jury is still out though and, even though I've used pc and windows since UK launch (I worked for IBM at the time), my mac is still very much in use.
How do you fine the exe file?
Who thinks up this stupid moronic ****? Why change it so its hard to do? Why don't they have a classic screen so we users don't have to screw around for days getting things so we can use them. What morons they have working for micosoft these days.
