I had this issue with my VivoBook S400CA touch screen and fixed it today doing the following:

  1. Go to the Control Panel.
  2. Go to Troubleshooting (you may have to search for it)
  3. Click Hardware and Sound
  4. In the Device section, click Hardware and Devices
  5. Have the wizard scan your computer for hardware issues.
  6. Let the computer fix whatever issues you had.

In my case there were 2 USB input devices that were disabled that the wizard enabled for me.  The touchscreen immediately started working.  Hope this helps someone.

UPDATE:

The problem used to come back periodically.  But since updating all of my drivers a while back, the problem has not resurfaced.

Have you tried updating the driver which is responsible for the touchscreen properties of your computer?

If you are unsure which one to upgrade, then I suggest you scan your computer with RadarSync. It will tell exactly which to update and you have the option to update it automatically.

Well, I can try but I'm a bit of a tech expert and I don't think this is it as the screen was working fine until updates to "Windows" only took place.. hardware drivers did not change.  I am getting used to the blame game between Microsoft and the PC makers lol.. it's quite the comedy.

I blame Microsoft for this current problem I'm having, as my new laptop worked fine out of the box, after the updates... glitchy.  but that's microsoft for you, always trying to fix what isn't broken.. lol  If the hardware driver that was working got broke by one of microsoft's "updates" or changes, Than it is up to Microsoft to work with the PC maker to get a driver update fix out plain and simple.

I have this same problem, updated windows 8 on same laptop yesterday, now whenever it comes out of sleep or hibernation, the touchscreen malfunctions, stops working and behaves like something is touching the screen on the mid right edge of the screen... little touch graphic keeps appearing, fading, and blinking and rest of screen doesn't react to touch.  ASUS wanted me to pay for sending it in, Microsoft so far has been completely un-helpful as well.  This is fun stuff!  Starting to see why Microsoft Windows 8 is one BIG FAIL!  Thanks Microsoft, but I'll stick with Windows 7 now as 8 is ...well... not good.... not good at all.

    Hey Krishna,

Let me know if a solution is forthcoming. I did a 'refresh to factory' setting over the last hour hoping it would work but instead the pen and touch tab has not reappeared in control panel nor is the touch screen working at all. This seems to be a much bigger problem than I first envisaged.

Luckily for you, Asus has a major presence in India. I bought my laptop from London and am now in Lahore. If it has a major problem I have no way of getting it corrected.

    Ciao
