No audio during playback in Movie Maker

I am finding a problem with my Windows Movie Maker, I have run my videos through Media player and Am certain the sound is just fine there, but when I put it on movie maker, No audio at all no game sounds or talking from me. Please any fix to this would be greatly appreciated.

This works for me in Windows 8.1 to fix this:

type "services" in the Windows search box

From the list of services, choose Windows Audio

Stop the service, then

Start the service

Sound now plays in Movie Maker.

    Hi, Richard:

    None of these suggestions do the trick.

    Firstly, I have the newest WMM.

    Secondly, I have tried importing the file as both an .mp4 and a .wmv, both of which are allegedly supported by WMM.

    Third,  tried the fixit tool and was told by your web site that my operating system didn't support it -- even though I've got the most recent update of 8.1 installed.

    Fourth, I followed another poster's advice and downloaded a codec pack, but that didn't help.

    Next, I downloaded and installed MediaInfo, but then I couldn't find it anywhere on my computer and therefore couldn't run it (thanks, Windows 8! You're useless!)

    The bottom line is, I have a perfectly good video file which, when imported into WMM suddenly has no audio (despite SHOWING audio in the waveform), and when edited and saved as a movie, ALSO has no audio.

    So, what gives? And what's the real fix?

    Okay, update:

    I found Mediainfo on the computer and opened it, but I had no idea how to use it... that is, how to use it to "determine faulty codecs".

    Sigh.

    I have some information to offer in the installation and use of MediaInfo. It follows the installation process, what to opt out of and opening your video files and hopefully getting the correct codec installed on your system.
