This works for me in Windows 8.1 to fix this:
type "services" in the Windows search box
From the list of services, choose Windows Audio
Stop the service, then
Start the service
Sound now plays in Movie Maker.

I am finding a problem with my Windows Movie Maker, I have run my videos through Media player and Am certain the sound is just fine there, but when I put it on movie maker, No audio at all no game sounds or talking from me. Please any fix to this would be greatly appreciated.

Yo encontré una solución, en las propiedades del altavoz, en opciones avanzadas debes subir la velocidad de muestra y profundidad en bit subirlo a calidad de estudio, por lo menos a 48000 Hz y 24 bits

This worked for me also. WMM used to work on my laptop but suddenly the sound disappeared.
Just a couple of points:
- I'm running Windows 10.
- the app is called "DTS Studio Sound". If you can't find it (especially if you run a normal environment and not the dumbed down appy interface) just try Start/Search Programs and type "DTS"
What about those who find Windows 7 to be perfectly adequate.
If it works don't fix it right?
Anyway i have similar issues, i'll try it anyway.
