This works for me in Windows 8.1 to fix this:
type "services" in the Windows search box
From the list of services, choose Windows Audio
Stop the service, then
Start the service
Sound now plays in Movie Maker.

I am finding a problem with my Windows Movie Maker, I have run my videos through Media player and Am certain the sound is just fine there, but when I put it on movie maker, No audio at all no game sounds or talking from me. Please any fix to this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! This worked. (I HATE Win 8)
It worked. Thank you for sharing your expertise with us.
That answer was thoroughly useless. The Microsoft Fixit Tool doesn't work ever since you updated it (one more time). I do hope that this kind of **** doesn't happen with Windows 10. MediaInfo downloaded a photo albums application that I did not want.
MediaInfo is confusing and I don't know what I am supposed to do with it. Thanks for just dropping me into the middle of a mess. I tried using debug on the Moviemaker file and only got back some data that made no sense to me and did not fix the problem. Thanks a lot.
The initial problem should have received more attention by Microsoft engineers. I am amazed that it still persists in Windows 8.1 or that your updates wreck this functionality.
This actually worked. Thank you.
