This works for me in Windows 8.1 to fix this:
type "services" in the Windows search box
From the list of services, choose Windows Audio
Stop the service, then

Sound now plays in Movie Maker.

I am finding a problem with my Windows Movie Maker, I have run my videos through Media player and Am certain the sound is just fine there, but when I put it on movie maker, No audio at all no game sounds or talking from me. Please any fix to this would be greatly appreciated.

I have another program that creates and saves video clips. I just loaded it, didn’t open any files, just dbl click and let it sit there. Then loaded moviemaker and opened he video and it had sound. Edited it, saved it and I worked. Followed the same procedure with another clip and it worked again.
BUT:
That was yesterday. Come back today, and I can get audio but now no video. (OK, yes I want my cake and eat it too, I am sort bad about that.) Actually, if I select the video and open with, I get nothing. If I first load MovieMaker and let it open the file I get audio. In either case I get no Video. There is one difference, Yesterday I was dealing with MPG. The ones today are MP4 files.
It acts like something isn’t being initialized and garbage in memory is impacting it function.
Any thoughts welcome,
Thanks
Clark

but where do you get the converter? i haven't found a free converter that will convert a whole clip. there is one free converter, but it only converts half of your video clip. i do not want to pay $ for a converter.
