No audio during playback in Movie Maker

I tried this, but it didn't help.

In the past I've actually found WMM to be a helpful and easy-to-use program, but like everything else associated with Windows 8, suddenly the new version is impossible to use.

Grr.

Windows 8 is nothing more than a rearrange of house furniture and a new front door— overall, it's the same problems under the roof. I have never claimed a new GUI as an operating system upgrade.

BUT when I loaded the codec pack from K-Lite I was able to active import and edit the formats you're talking about, but Microsoft won't include them with Windows Movie Maker; I believe it's an issue of having to pay license fees.

As a suggestion for downloading codecs, http://www.free-codecs.com/  has an array of codec packs to choose from. I have used the K-Lite codec pack [standard] for years and I've had very good success.

Making sure to note that Windows Movie Maker is a free software package from Microsoft; and unfortunately, sometimes, you get what you pay for. I use Windows Movie Maker for small quick projects, but not larger ones I care more about. Windows Movie Maker has a noted limitation on how complex projects can be.

Codecs are the main issue... everyone especially the developers know what standards company are using for their photos/videos ....  and OS should be all inclusive.  I understand Apple wants to develop their way and the only way and people want to do business or link with their products, then they have to oblige to their requirements. 

My files are 3GP files ... Quicktime works fine .. Android works fine  with these files...  I'm only coming back to Windows 8 to work with this OS to see if in fact that this OS is getting better...  And I don't want to have to pay for software to just play a standard video file that has been out there about 10 years...

I'm still having a problem with the audio ... and I'm waiting for responses back to my post.  I'm a software/systems Engineer ... and I'm quite critical of the functionality of things on Windows 8.0 to 8.1.  I'm wasting too much  time on something too simple from the start.

You shouldn't have to jump through hoops to get things working; this is not the way an OS is suppose to work. Clearly this OS is not ready for prime time.
