This works for me in Windows 8.1 to fix this:
type "services" in the Windows search box
From the list of services, choose Windows Audio
Stop the service, then
Start the service
Sound now plays in Movie Maker.

I am finding a problem with my Windows Movie Maker, I have run my videos through Media player and Am certain the sound is just fine there, but when I put it on movie maker, No audio at all no game sounds or talking from me. Please any fix to this would be greatly appreciated.

How is that I just downloaded Windows Essentials, uploaded photos and videos from my camera to Windows Photo Gallery and from there into Windows Moviemaker. How is that the videos can be incompatible then? I also have no sound.
