2. You are entitled to your opinion. Glad it worked out for you. To be honest though, I don't like the way you fixed the problem. Sting's approach seemed much more logical and it took JUST MINUTES to implement. There is no way that I should have to 'trick' my computer by putting in a different date and then switching it back, as you suggested. It seems much more logical to actually go to Windows Explorer and replace the files that were missing in the Windows Side Bar area. That's where the error was in the first place.

The "fix" from two years ago that you did requires having another computer than has the weather gadget working so someone can copy a file from that computer to a different computer.  Plenty of people don't have a  "good" copy of the file from another computer.  You were lucky you did.  Or maybe some don't feel comfortable copying a file. 

Don't you think its possible that in two years some other "fixes" have been found? They have and they have been posted here.  They will work for anyone.

1. It doesn't matter how old the thread is. I had the problem YESTERDAY. Therefore, I was doing research across various parts of the Internet and my solution happened to be found in this 2 year old thread.
2. Lastly, you are the reason why I don't join forums like this. You may know a thing or two about computers but your attitude sucks. That's why when I'm done hitting reply here I'm removing the email notification option and I won't be back here. My problem is fixed so what do I care? Reply all you want and flame me, I don't care. I won't be sticking around here or coming back to read that nonsense.

And you WILL be back here again, since the 'fix' you did will only last for tops a week or so ...

Then the same problem is back again!

And you don't seem to understand WHY one shant answer to two year old msgs, but the reason is that you only confuse people then (Like YOU now became confused and did a 'fix' that even wasn't for your problem ...), since the two year old fix ain't for the Same Problem that we NOW all have since around February 1, 2015.

MY way will last at least until 2017, and then we all hopefully will have at least Win10, with working Apps.

To fix the Weather Gadget, all you have to do is go to:

C:\Users\YourOwnWindowsName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live\Services\Cache

Now change the Date on your computer to be 2017.

Open ( >>Rightclick > Edit ) ( Or use Notepad ) and RE-save the config.xml file.

Exit the program you used to RE-save it.

Now Rightclick config.xml and chose Properties, check READ-ONLY, click OK.

Look to see that the Date on the config.xml now is set to the year 2017.

Set the Computers Date back to todays date.

Forum etiquette aside

the only way a solution other than that currently provided by AndersWillhelmsson will work, is to switch off your Windows Updates.....

cause, as pointed out, and i've verified from own experience, keep your windows updates switched on and you're 99% guaranteed the next software update you accept, will put you back to square one: cannot connect.

I've tried alternative windows gadgets, but the connections got switched off after a MS crucial update.

I've currently resigned to following Anders' latest sollution with the year change, and, todate, have not experienced any further problems.

Joe's response is to not understand why he had the problem in the first place, which Anders' solution is trying to attend to.

Copying software from one machine to another, is great, if you happen to have access to an alternative working version.... but then you have to bare in mind are you dealing with 32 or 64 byte machines;

and even then, that fix will only be temporary.... :/

Either way, the route goal is to have our treasured weather gadget working again.

So glad i'm finally enjoying a working solution.
