Weather gadget not working- Cannot connect to service

And exactly a Week ago I had to RE-save my config-xml file, and today I had to do the same again, so it seems it'll be a Weekly manouver from now on to RE-save the config.xml, so everyone make yourself a Shortcut to the Folder.

Just rightclick the Desktop, chose >>New>Shortcut, paste the Path =

C:\Users*YourOwnWindowsName*\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live\Services\Cache

into the the new Shortcut, and then click NEXT, and Give it a Name, and then click FINISH.

That way it'll by a lot simpler when you need to RE-save config.xml again each week.

Of course this can also be done with a BAT-file and using the Scheduler, but that's another story ... :-)

Confusing or not....thanks to all.  As of today, no wobbly or other issues.

I am using Visat 64-bit OS, and I'm not sure if that changes anything.  Also, I must disclose that I still had a temperature and location displayed, albeit inaccurate.  When I choose some other locations, I received the 'service not available' issue others have encountered.  Yet, other locations displayed even more widly inaccurate data for temperature.

Before taking giant steps, I decided to take baby steps.  So, here's what I did:

1.  Close Windows Sidebar.

2.  Open the referenced "config xml" file using 'edit' as outlined by most posters, which uses Notepad.

3.  Select 'file>save' without making any changes, and then close notepad.

4.  Wait about 30 seconds and reopen Sidebar.

Viola'....temperature is now accurate.  I would prefer that it was warmer than 30 degrees fahrenheit, but it is predicted to be 2 degrees within 24 hours.  I can live with that, as long as it is accurate.

If other problems are encountered, I will try to continue on this thread with any possible solutions.  I lost the Weather Widget by performing a standard Windows Update approximately 2 days ago.  Thus, everyone please keep your fingers crossed that the next update will not undo the fix.

I read all of the posts, and I may have put the fact that they helped or the "Me Too" in the wrong place.  I completely agree a post that began around 2013 should not be at the top, and I would love to be able to sort them by date.

Lastly, I am downright gleeful just to have the Widget working again.  Therefore, I can deal with minor inconveniences even though I had to do a great deal of searching to find a solution.  Cheers!!

It is getting confusing.  Especially when people keep posting about copying files from a working machine.  While that seems to work the other fix is much simpler whether changing the values in the Config.xml file or just resaving it.

FIRSTLY, im no techie, but i find it stupid a problem first posted 2013, doesnt have this thread running with the most current posts running directly underneath, i.e. backwards (newest first)

SECONDLY, if i can follow the advice, anybody can!

3rd - great to give KUDOS if you know the orignal poster, but reposting a working solution isnt an internet crime

4. to resolve = you DON'T have to have a working Weather gadget on any other machine. Copying files may be solution, but isnt necessarily *THE* solution:
5. RDMullins/AndersWillhelmsson's solution will work, or atleast worked for me, when i didnt have a working copy elsewhere, and a ZIP files i was directed to, that solution didnt work, either.
6. I had some provisos/additions

Where i couldnt find files i had to unhide them:

easiest way for a non-techie

START\ Control Panel\ FOLDER OPTIONS\ View  ... and Tick Hidden Files

"USERNAME" isnt something you search. User name is YOU, whatever your Computer name is.

For a non techie, you dont even have to know that:

(Win7) in START \ RUN \ (click on & open up "Run")

(copy/paste) AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live\Services\Cache (and enter)

then you will see that Config XML file every one's going on about to edit

... follow RM's advice how to modify

and SAVE

ADDENDUM... since Page 9 of this thread, my Weather app has thrown another wobbly.

I've found the solution, is you go back in to the Config XML file, .... and just SAVE.

Kudos to that person, elsewhere, too.
