Hi Ian,

Welcome to the Microsoft Community forums where you can find answers to all your Windows related queries.

We can’t import contacts directly to the People app from a CSV file. However, if you visit http://people.live.com/ you can import the contacts through manage option. You can refer these steps:

a) Visit http://people.live.com/ and login with the same Microsoft ID that you have synced with the People app

b) Click on “Manage” on the top and click on “Add people”

c) Click on “import from a file”

d) Browse and import the CSV file from your computer

Note: It might take some time for the contacts to be updated in the People app in your computer.

    Hi Bennet,

    I'm following the same steps as stated in your comments above, but people.com does not appear to be uploading the CSV file at all.

    I'm trying to import some contacts from iPhone with iOS9 into a Windows Phone running 8.1 with update 2.

    Any idea as to why it won't work? Is there another way?

    You need to set the column headings in the .csv file to match the naming convention in   Microsoft "People" so use Email, not Primary email etc...

    I have found a way  around my problem, the contacts which I needed to import were from Windows Live Mail but the email addresses would not import, only the names even though the addresses were present in the CSV file. I also have a Gmail account which I do not use much, so I imported the CSV file from Windows live mail into my Gmail account- it worked fine!! I then exported the names and email addresses from my Gmail account into a CSV file. I imported this into Outlook and the emails addresses appeared as well as the names. Problem solved for me.Hope this helps someone else too. Strange how the CSV file did not work between two Microsoft programmes yet worked fine between Gmail and Microsoft!!!
