Welcome to the Microsoft Community forums where you can find answers to all your Windows related queries.

We can’t import contacts directly to the People app from a CSV file. However, if you visit http://people.live.com/ you can import the contacts through manage option. You can refer these steps:

a) Visit http://people.live.com/ and login with the same Microsoft ID that you have synced with the People app

b) Click on “Manage” on the top and click on “Add people”

c) Click on “import from a file”

d) Browse and import the CSV file from your computer

Note: It might take some time for the contacts to be updated in the People app in your computer.

    what do you do if there's no "Add People" under step 'b' above? I have imported my contacts from iPhone in Microsoft Contacts format as well as CSV. I've added the contacts to the "contacts' folder and it still doesn't pick it up. I was hoping this would help, but I've hit a snag where I can't follow the steps (i.e. o "Add People") under "Manage"! Always something with MSFT!!!! Thank you.

    Where can we find how the fields and columns are to be layed out, I read earlier that the columns for each fiels are expected to be a fixed length to match that field and each field is to be at an expected location.

    DOES anyone have the detailed information on the structure of the INPUT file?

    I have also been looking for competing APPS and have found NONE does anyone have any leads for competing APP.  I agree with a comment earlier I have worked with windows and windows products for many years and have NEVER had this much difficulty trying to simply up load my contact data.  This (what was at one time a simple process) is holding up any progress I am having in trying to finish the configuration of my system and in MANY cases I have been unable to send out Emails a few very important personal in nature Email.  I have had to go to my sisters house and barrow some time on her XP system.

    PLEASE HELP I need some progress on this system, any reference material I can by anything.

    I am having the same problems only the names are showing up (few exceptions here and there other misc. data comes in.  Is it that the csv file is formatted incorrectly or the data structure is not set up.   I have spent hours on this problem any help PLEASE

    I have even looked for competing products and found none does anyone have any leads on other contact management software.

    Only works when you export your contacts, and create field / column titles that match with the exported CSV

    I also have problems imported from a csv file.  I change the fields so they match the fields in the windows live list and still only import the first and last name fields.    This is extremely difficult to import.  I have worked with MS products since 1989 and I have never had this much trouble.
