import contacts csv file into windows 8 people app

After a night out of trying its mission accomplished for me!! :)

I had an E71 with over 700 contacts, which I wanted to move to my new Windows 8 based Samsung ATIV S. After several iterations, trying with csv files etc., I have chanced upon this solution -

1. If you don't already have an outlook / hotmail account, set one up
2. Setup Microsoft Office Outlook to sync with this outlook/hotmail account by downloading the Hotmail connector http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=24677 & http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/17328/add-hotmail-live-email-accounts-to-outlook-2010/
3. Download & install Nokia PC Suite http://www.nokia.com/global/support/nokia-pc-suite/
4. Now 'sync' your contacts & calendar in PC Suite with Office Outlook. (It does so automatically). It will sync it with the default account. If the hotmail/outlook account is not the default account, the contacts can be simply copy/pasted to from the default account to that account http://www.outlookforums.com/threads/89037-sync-calendar-contacts-using-outlook-com-any-liveid/
5. And then, finally when you have your Windows phone hooked to that hotmail/outlook account, the contacts come in in a jiffy! =)

It imports contacts doesn't import the numbers.

I  was able to finally import the contacts but only the names made it without the numbers or any other information!!!

I have done all the steps in your directive.   The data structure match as well as I can see unless there is something in the date structures I cannot see.   I finally gave up and am not using the e-mail. I made an app icon for my e-mail and am using it.

We can’t import contacts directly to the People app from a CSV file. However, if you visit http://people.live.com/ you can import the contacts through manage option. You can refer these steps:

a) Visit http://people.live.com/ and login with the same Microsoft ID that you have synced with the People app

b) Click on “Manage” on the top and click on “Add people”

c) Click on “import from a file”

d) Browse and import the CSV file from your computer

Note: It might take some time for the contacts to be updated in the People app in your computer.

I am having exactly the same problem, I import a CSV file from my  windows live mail on my old PC and it imports the names but not the email addresses- I am not an expert and am very happy to find other people with this problem. Surely two Windows programmes should be compatible!!!
