Hi getting above message with device manager for this hardware TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H653N ATA

Ive tried running the Microsoft trouble shooter but this doesn't help any ideas? Running Windows 8 thanks

Can you check the following registry key?:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

At that registry key, in the right window, is there, under "Name", either an UpperFilters or LowerFilters value?

If so, for each of the UpperFilters and/or LowerFilters value, what is listed under "Data"?

    Hi denny1700.

     

    Are you running Windows 8 and is the CD/DVD drive the issue?

     

    If so, go here:

     

    Start > type regedit and press "Enter" on the keyboard.

     

    Then expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE , expand SYSTEM , expand CurrentControlSet , expand Control , expand Class

     

    Then under Class click on {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

     

    In the right window, check for a "Name" UpperFilters and/or LowerFilters

     

    If found, what is under "Data" for those Names?

    Brilliant

    Removing the UpperFilters fixed mine also

    Now, can someone explain what this does or should I just accept it as a magic fix that someone found?

    I have been tearing my hair out over this for about 12 hours over three days.

    Thought I'd done everything, well I had except for updating the "iTunes" driver.

    In an instant the pain left me!

    Hi Brett,

    You would have removed a "corrupted" UpperFilters value.

    The UpperFilters and LowerFilters values determine what filter drivers are loaded for the device.

    If there was an UpperFilters value present but no corresponding or good copy of the filter driver present in the C:\Windows\System32\drivers folder then the UpperFilters value is trying to load a driver that does not exist and the error occurs.

    Removing the "corrupted" UpperFilters value would fix that error after a reboot. 

    A caveat would be after removing the value if you find a program associated with the device does not work properly you may have to reinstall that program but make sure when you reinstall that program you it is the latest version of that program and is fully compatible with Operating System.

    Tried uninstalling ,reinstalling  and updating drivers none of these worked.Then did a system restore and the dvd/cd drive is now working.
