Hi getting above message with device manager for this hardware TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H653N ATA

Ive tried running the Microsoft trouble shooter but this doesn't help any ideas? Running Windows 8 thanks

Can you check the following registry key?:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

At that registry key, in the right window, is there, under "Name", either an UpperFilters or LowerFilters value?

If so, for each of the UpperFilters and/or LowerFilters value, what is listed under "Data"?

    I have a Dell XPS 5800 using windows 8 that now has this same issue and error message "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"    

    I looked at the registry as per instructions in this blog and there are no upper or lower filter lines under the referenced entry.  I did run the update for Gear as suggested above today as well - with no affect - still have the same problem.

    One of the things I did do earlier today was to install the latest iTunes but I didn't notice my cdrom drive had this issue until much later in the data.

    so - any other ideas please?

    Can you check again, the UpperFilters and or LowerFilters values would be in the right window adjacent to the registry key.

    If you installed iTunes there should be an UpperFilters value with a data of GEARAspiWMD
