I had this problem and think I have found the cure. Open up the Nvidia Control Panel (probably bottom right tasks bar) left hand side of control panel click on Phys configurations, click on automatic and change to GForce (if this is what your computer runs) click apply - hopefully this may cure your problems. If not increase the power to your cpu,
I get an error, "video tdr failure".
Original title : video tdr failure

TDR is the Timeout, Detection, and Recoverycomponent in Windows. **** What happens is the Graphics Display driver for the installed graphics card stops responding. When this happens, windows will stop and restart the driver to fix the problem.
The most common reason for this issue is that the graphics device is being overloaded or used beyond its capabilities.
This happens most often when playing graphic intensive games, but can happen with any process that uses a large amount of graphic resources, such as when editing or creating videos.
Some things you can do to avoid these problems:
a. Make sure you are using the latest graphics device driver.
b. Manage your time working with programs that are graphic intensive, exit any other programs that might also use a large amount of resources.
I would suggest you to download and Install the latest graphic card drivers from the manufacturer’s website and check.
You can install Windows 7 drivers in compatibility mode if there are no Windows 8 compatible drivers.
Follow these steps:
a) Press the ‘Windows + W’ key on the keyboard.
b) Type compatibility in the search box and then press enter.
c) Click “Run programs made for previous versions of Windows” option from the list appeared in the left side.
d) Select the drivers and install.
If the issue persists or you have further questions on Windows, please do not hesitate to let us know. We will be glad to assist you.

2015-07-20T23:07:47+00:00 Hi Brian,
Thank you for your response. Video tdr failure is caused by many factor, like display driver issues, failure of the hardware, overheating of the card and dust. You can run a memory test to help show how well your computer runs in all areas, and may indicate your computer needs more RAM, or memory. To do this follow the steps below.
- Go to Start.
- Click Control Panel.
- Type Memory in the search box and press Enter.
- Click Diagnose your Computer’s Memory Problems.
- Choose to restart now and perform the test, or run it next time you restart.
Also, make sure the card is properly cooled and is running the latest drivers that are optimized for the hardware can prevent this error from occurring.
Hope this helps.

2015-07-20T13:45:10+00:00 I have the same issue, new GT740 + 4G and running Windows 10. Now I only seem to get the problem when the Computer goes to Sleep. It then requires a pwer restart to get the graphics back. Replaced the 280W PS with a 750W PS and that has not help except occassionally I get a Screen of nothing but glitter and then have to power down.
