I had this problem and think I have found the cure. Open up the Nvidia Control Panel (probably bottom right tasks bar) left hand side of control panel click on Phys configurations, click on automatic and change to GForce (if this is what your computer runs) click apply - hopefully this may cure your problems. TDR is the Timeout, Detection, and Recoverycomponent in Windows. **** What happens is the Graphics Display driver for the installed graphics card stops responding. When this happens, windows will stop and restart the driver to fix the problem.
The most common reason for this issue is that the graphics device is being overloaded or used beyond its capabilities.
This happens most often when playing graphic intensive games, but can happen with any process that uses a large amount of graphic resources, such as when editing or creating videos.
Some things you can do to avoid these problems:
a. Make sure you are using the latest graphics device driver.
b. Manage your time working with programs that are graphic intensive, exit any other programs that might also use a large amount of resources.
I would suggest you to download and Install the latest graphic card drivers from the manufacturer’s website and check.
You can install Windows 7 drivers in compatibility mode if there are no Windows 8 compatible drivers.
Follow these steps:
a) Press the ‘Windows + W’ key on the keyboard.
b) Type compatibility in the search box and then press enter.
c) Click “Run programs made for previous versions of Windows” option from the list appeared in the left side.
d) Select the drivers and install.

I got this error after upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 7. The error message is always received when opening up my favorite game, Portal 2. In Windows 7 I never got this error, and played the game through smoothly without any hitches. Now that I upgraded, my machine has been behaving strangely. For instance, the edge browser and other applications have fuzzy or blurry text sometimes. Other times, the inside of windows won't load and will be transparent with only the border showing. Sometimes my CPU runs like crazy when nothing is happening. It's not that I don't like Windows 10- I really do- but there seems to be a lot of bugs that need to be worked out.
In my case your help is useless, because I get this error just after logging in. Sometimes I see the desktop screen that fades out to black after a 3-5 seconds period and sometimes I just see the black screen. I managed to start computer normally for the first time after upgrading from Windows 7 and now it not a chance to work on it. Is there any "emergency" state of Windows startup just to see the graphic card preperties to change the graphic driver? I am using eeePCX101CH and never had such a problems with Windows 7.
