I get an error, "video tdr failure".

I tried for 10 months (since load Windows 10) to repair this error - Sorry Folks - I have it on good authority that your Nividia Card needs replacing and it is probably part of your Mother Board - so an expensive exercise but the only way to correct this problem.   Don't bother trying all those things on Google and gettig frustrated - they do not work - go and get new Nividia Cards.

I had VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE problem. Following advice in this thread and several other similar threads, I updated drivers. Reset Windows 10... spent several hours over a week's time trying to fix this. Went online to the Microsoft support chat, during the remote session they repeated all the steps I had taken. They were not able to resolve it until they checked the settings in Microsoft Edge. There is a check box that was not selected to enable use of software rendering instead of hardware rendering. Problem was solved when that was selected. I have been going through all my programs and checking settings to enable software rendering. Hope this helps someone.

TDR is theTimeout, Detection, and Recoverycomponent in Windows.What happens is the Graphics Display driver for the installed graphics card stops responding. When this happens, windows will stop and restart the driver to fix the problem.

The most common reason for this issue is that the graphics device is being overloaded or used beyond its capabilities.

This happens most often when playing graphic intensive games, but can happen with any process that uses a large amount of graphic resources, such as when editing or creating videos.

Some things you can do to avoid these problems:

a. Make sure you are using the latest graphics device driver.

b. Manage your time working with programs that are graphic intensive, exit any other programs that might also use a large amount of resources.

I would suggest you to download and Install the latest graphic card drivers from the manufacturer’s website and check.

You can install Windows 7 drivers in compatibility mode if there are no Windows 8 compatible drivers.

Follow these steps:

a) Press the ‘Windows + W’ key on the keyboard.

b) Type compatibility in the search box and then press enter.

c) Click “Run programs made for previous versions of Windows” option from the list appeared in the left side.

d) Select the drivers and install.

All I see is programs, there is nothing about drivers.

My PC crashes with this VTR failure regardless!  It can be sitting there just doing "nothing" (no tasks, just a desktop) and it will suddenly crash BSOD and try to reboot saying "gathering data, etc." but it does NOT gather data and has to be rebooted manually.  Running windows 10 (upgraded from W8 with all updates), 2 x Nvidia GT8600's, no games running.  Probably happens 5 - times a day.  I have bought anew PC (no problem) and so I am able to just watch the old PC sit there and abend time after time while doing "nothing"!
