I had this problem and think I have found the cure. Open up the Nvidia Control Panel (probably bottom right tasks bar) left hand side of control panel click on Phys configurations, click on automatic and change to GForce (if this is what your computer runs) click apply - hopefully this may cure your problems. TDR is the Timeout, Detection, and Recoverycomponent in Windows. **** What happens is the Graphics Display driver for the installed graphics card stops responding. When this happens, windows will stop and restart the driver to fix the problem.
The most common reason for this issue is that the graphics device is being overloaded or used beyond its capabilities.
This happens most often when playing graphic intensive games, but can happen with any process that uses a large amount of graphic resources, such as when editing or creating videos.
Some things you can do to avoid these problems:
a. Make sure you are using the latest graphics device driver.
b. Manage your time working with programs that are graphic intensive, exit any other programs that might also use a large amount of resources.
I would suggest you to download and Install the latest graphic card drivers from the manufacturer’s website and check.
You can install Windows 7 drivers in compatibility mode if there are no Windows 8 compatible drivers.
Follow these steps:
a) Press the ‘Windows + W’ key on the keyboard.
b) Type compatibility in the search box and then press enter.
c) Click “Run programs made for previous versions of Windows” option from the list appeared in the left side.
d) Select the drivers and install.

Thank you for your response. Video tdr failure is caused by many factor, like display driver issues, failure of the hardware, overheating of the card and dust. You can run a memory test to help show how well your computer runs in all areas, and may indicate your computer needs more RAM, or memory. To do this follow the steps below.
Also, make sure the card is properly cooled and is running the latest drivers that are optimized for the hardware can prevent this error from occurring.

I had to reinstall my OS because the basic kernel had gotten corrupted. After this, I have no longer had the TDR error and the system and graphics have been great.
I I had gotten several suggestion to check for and correct the kernel issue, but in the end, backed up my system and reinstalled the OS and the problem went away.

I would really appreciate it if you could help me with an earlier post:
I just now received this error for the second time and i am starting to be concerned. The thing that worries me is the fact that i was not doing anything to cause it. I recently started hibernating my pc instead of shutting it down and since then i started getting this error. But when i hibernate my pc i am not playing any games or anything that would push my graphics card to the limit, and when i open my pc and "wake it up" my screen turns blue and restarts. I am also using a second monitor, and the this happens, my main screen turn black and i can only see the blue monitor on my second screen
The blue screen says "video_tdr_failure"
