I had this problem and think I have found the cure. Open up the Nvidia Control Panel (probably bottom right tasks bar) left hand side of control panel click on Phys configurations, click on automatic and change to GForce (if this is what your computer runs) click apply - hopefully this may cure your problems. TDR is the Timeout, Detection, and Recoverycomponent in Windows. **** What happens is the Graphics Display driver for the installed graphics card stops responding. When this happens, windows will stop and restart the driver to fix the problem.
The most common reason for this issue is that the graphics device is being overloaded or used beyond its capabilities.
This happens most often when playing graphic intensive games, but can happen with any process that uses a large amount of graphic resources, such as when editing or creating videos.
Some things you can do to avoid these problems:
a. Make sure you are using the latest graphics device driver.
b. Manage your time working with programs that are graphic intensive, exit any other programs that might also use a large amount of resources.
I would suggest you to download and Install the latest graphic card drivers from the manufacturer’s website and check.
You can install Windows 7 drivers in compatibility mode if there are no Windows 8 compatible drivers.
Follow these steps:
a) Press the ‘Windows + W’ key on the keyboard.
b) Type compatibility in the search box and then press enter.
c) Click “Run programs made for previous versions of Windows” option from the list appeared in the left side.
d) Select the drivers and install.

Since you have not stated what kind of computer you are using or what specific graphics hardware or driver is installed, I cannot give you precise advice about other things you can try. Something you can try instead of reinstalling Windows again is to try rolling back the driver to the last working one. There is a driver that is causing problems for a lot of people, that keeps getting installed with updates to Windows.
Go to Device Manager -> Properties -> Driver, and then, if the button is not greyed out, click the Roll Back Driver button. Alternatively, try installing the latest driver directly from the manufacturer of your hardware.

I see this is an older post but I am having thisissue on an older Toshiba Satellite Machine. It takes 3 tries of booting and rebooting before the TDR message goes away. I am running windows 10 and had the issue for about 6 months after a windows update. After that time there was another Windows update and the issue fixed itself. This lasted about 3 weeks, now after another recent update it has begun doing the same thing again. I have updated the drivers on my Pc and it is still doing the same thing hoping a new update will come out soon to fix this issue really frustrating while trying to work and publish on my blog steroidreviewer.com in the meantime I will continue to search for a fix.
Sometimes, just upgrading the driver will not be enough. One file sometimes is left behind during the upgrade process and that one file could be responsible. Use Device manager to remove the device driver completely from the system. Be sure to check the box that reads "Delete the driver software for this device." Reboot, and then reinstall the driver.
The other thing to do is to check your settings for the driver. Windows 10 puts additional stresses on a video card and a setting is responsible.
Probably the first thing to check is to make sure you have adequate ventilation on your device. Clean the dust out of your device, if any. Make sure that there are no obstructions of ventilation. Additional stress on the graphics card and presence of dust producing a thermal condition will also cause the hardware to generate this error in the driver in Windows 10. It then is hit and miss as to when you will see this error. Same if the device is about to fail.
