windows 8 stuck in restart loop 'your pc ran into a problem and needs to restart. We are just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you'

My laptop was working fine last night, however I left it on and unplugged and it died. This morning I am getting an endless loop of 'Your pc ran into a problem and needs to restart. We are just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you'

the message pops up for one second and then the VAIO logo reappears before the blue screen pops back for a second. This just goes on forever with no additional info. I can see an additional line appear on the blue screen every time just as it turns off so it is unreadable.

Help please?

more info: The percentage bar never goes past 0% It just pops up and immediately goes back to the VAIO screen.

Hi Wesley,

This issue could be due to system files corruption, I would suggest you to try performing automatic repair using Windows 8 disc from Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) and check if it helps.

To perform Automatic repair on Windows 8 computer follow these steps:

a.     Insert the media such as (USB or DVD) and restart your computer.

b.     Press F12 key (typically this is F12, but it can differ between computer manufacturers) and choose the drive that you inserted the installation media into.

c.     Once the Windows Setup window appears, follow these steps:

d.     Click next and select Repair your computer.

e.     You will then see a blue screen and an option to choose. Choose the option Troubleshoot and select advanced options.

f.      You may choose Automatic Repair from Advanced boot option.

Keep us updated on the status of the issue.

                 Toshiba Satellite L75D-A7288

    Apparently you will have to try being quick instead of taking advantage of a second power switch that I alluded to

    http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Windows-8-8-1-Knowledge-Base/How-To-Accessing-Boot-Options-Menu-in-Windows-8/ta-p/346858

    <quote>

    restart the computer by pressing the power button - IMMEDIATELY start tapping the F12 key on the keyboard until the "Boot Menu" screen appears.

    </quote>

    Hopefully you do not have a feature called "Fast boot" enabled, which would make the timing of such a procedure even more problematic.  Users who have such a feature have been known to remove the CMOS battery to try to lose that setting so they can at least have a fair race.   <eg>

    FYI

    Hey, what do you mean by the "Assist" button?? I´ve never seen anything like that on a keyboard. I have the same problem!!! :(

    On what machine?  In order to solve the problem about not being able to use F8 to get into Advanced boot options manufacturers have been creating an alternate Power on switch and naming it different things.  So I suspect that the "Assist button" may be an instance of that functionality on the machine in question.   Note that such a feature is really related to the specific product, not necessarily the product line and certainly not just the manufacturer.   So, if you need help interpreting your User Guide from that perspective, you will need to post your specific model.

    You posted to another thread which was started by someone who had an "Acer Aspire M3802"

    So, if that was closer to your machine specification, it looks like you could find others offering you a user manual using that specification but not Acer--unless you have a better product identification.

    My problem was resolved after the update to 8.1 was successfully done. I kept the dell computer that I bought from best buy. I became familiar to windows 8 now and everything seems to flow smoothly.

    Nothing stays the same; we need to adapt to a new environment.
