Music stops playing on MS Surface when screen turns off.

I have a Microsoft Surface. I have my mp3's in my default Music folder. When I play an album, a song will play but it will not play the next song if the screen has turned off. I always need to hit the power button again to turn the screen back on in order to play the next song. This makes this device useless as a music player as I have to turn it back on every few minutes. Often the song will start skipping as well when the screen turns off. This is for the Music app but also any other music playing apps I've tried such as Music Info. And please don't tell me this is by design. It is not by design. It's a bug. It would be nice to know when this will be resolved. Playing an MP3 is a basic function that should just work out of the box. It really can't be that hard. If a $30 mp3 player can do it I sure expect my $700 tablet to.

I literally worked for like 1 hour then stopped again. Hopefully you have better luck.

    Hi

I ended up taking back the 2nd surface 3 for a SP3. I tried what you said....it didn't work. I took the first 2 back because both had the same problems. The audio would work on/off.....the volume rocker would not go up or down, when released it drop or increase by 10 whichever way you were pressing. As well as the keyboard issues. I don't know why they released this... it certainly wasn't ready for release. This one wouldn't keep my micro sd info in the drive.... you would be listening to it... it would stop and all songs would disappear from WMP....I would look in the library, sure enough that drive (D) had dropped. The card isn't corrupt.... you could play it from the USB drive. I had another new one... opened that and no problem. I think the lock screen is the problem with this. I use WMP because  the equalizer works with my Bluetooth speakers. In the WMP player tab settings the  box you check to keep the music playing with the screen off states to allow playback while screensaver is off. We don't have the screensaver anymore.... if I set my screen to go off in 1 minute... it does but that is when the playback stops as well, even though I check the box for it to never go to sleep. There is a way to go in and disable the lock screen. I saw that on you tube, but haven't tried it yet. I'm glad it's even playing music and not disappearing, but feel they have charged way too much for something not ready for prime time. Samsung has it down pat as far as the music players..... in fact they make great tablets, I've had a few. I wanted windows tho. Good Luck....nt

Just bought a Surface Pro 4 and have the same problem. Music stops the instant the screen turns off, every time. (Using Spotify, only Music player I've used for years.) That the problem has been here for years without a fix worries me...

I tried the screen saver option mentioned above but the screen doesn't really turn off then and is a bit dark gray not entirely black... for now I guess it's the best that can be done? :/

I have the same issue with Jet Audio, VLC Player, Spotify and many more media players on my surface pro 4. I think the best solution is to put screen off and sleep time to more than one hour and then define screen saver for about five minutes. This is a good working workaround.
