USB-IF xHCI USB host controller driver problem

My new Windows 8 in Sony VAIO has detected problem with the driver for USB-IF xHCI USB host controller, which Windows couldn't reinstall. What to do? I haven't made the recovery disks yet! Please reply...

I saw this post today and the information provided helped me fix this issue.

The link basically says to visit the Intel website and use the Intel Driver Update Utility. The utility will automatically scan your computer for devices that are eligible for an update. Hope this helps you because it helped me. I also updated my Wireless driver while I was using the Intel Driver Update Utility since a newer driver was recently made available.

This worked for me; however, I ended up having to uninstall the old Intel WiDi driver and then restarting my computer before the setup.exe file would run and install on my computer (dell inspiron). I did create a restore point in case it didn't work, but everything seems to be running smoothly!

I should also point out that just deleting the Intel WiDi driver also got rid of the yellow exclamation mark, and unless you are planning to try and connect to your computer to your TV wirelessly, I don't think it is something that you need. Here is a link that explains what the driver does:

    new asus m5a99Pro r2.0, amd fx8coreBlack,DDR3corsair16g ram, sapphire hd 7870 2g, intel 1800 6.0 180g ssd, 7ter of hard drive with new windows 8 pro 64 bit and i have lost all usb , having to use old PS/2 mouse and keyboard to do anything, wth, is there a update or fix for this , i want xp back.  I tried the changing the time to 2012 and it did not work, tried uninstalling updated, still nothing, is there a fix?

    I also meet this issue & please change your PC time to 2012-xx-xx & try again(reboot). My PC can become ok if do like this. But the root cause not clear. Who can give more suggestion?

    How ridiculous is it that this actually worked? Bought a brand new HP Envy laptop costing over £600 and the driver wont work until i make the date forcibly wrong. 

    Crazy.

    I just got rid of the Intel WiDi driver that was installed on 11/26/12 and the problem went away.  I don't need to wirelessly connect my computer to my TV.  If I ever do, maybe they will have fixed it by then.  Thanks!
