My new Windows 8 in Sony VAIO has detected problem with the driver for USB-IF xHCI USB host controller, which Windows couldn't reinstall. What to do? I haven't made the recovery disks yet! Please reply...

The link basically says to visit the Intel website and use the Intel Driver Update Utility. The utility will automatically scan your computer for devices that are eligible for an update. Hope this helps you because it helped me. I also updated my Wireless driver while I was using the Intel Driver Update Utility since a newer driver was recently made available.

This worked for me; however, I ended up having to uninstall the old Intel WiDi driver and then restarting my computer before the setup.exe file would run and install on my computer (dell inspiron). I did create a restore point in case it didn't work, but everything seems to be running smoothly!

I should also point out that just deleting the Intel WiDi driver also got rid of the yellow exclamation mark, and unless you are planning to try and connect to your computer to your TV wirelessly, I don't think it is something that you need. Here is a link that explains what the driver does:

    USB-IF xHCI USB host controller driver problem

    Answer:- well i too faced this problem in my Dell Inspiron Laptop when  iupgraded from win 7 to win8

    The best way to solve is go to browser& type in the address bar:-

    http://www.downloadcenter.intel.com----->Support--->

    or use the  "Inel Driver update utility"---->continue------->check your system for updated drivers

    Note:- sometimesthis scanning utility could not identify your problem

    at that time from the results displayed after scanning---->

    Select the Intel Wireless Display software-->click on  update driver -->loading--->Agree & free download of java if not preinstalledin the system--->

    After download you can find ur file in c:/Downloads/Software/Setup 3.5.4.0.execlick next --> i agree--finish

    Now check ifproblem persist by going in My Computer-->Right click properties-->Device manager-->if still any yellow or red mark before driver then problem persist if no symbol mark then everything is fine

    You c instal the Intel centrino @ wireless N_1030 driver after  the above driver installation bcause it updates thesoftware & completely returns to a working states

    I followed your instructions and I no longer have a yellow exclamation point in the Device Manager.  Now I need to see if this prevents the random loss of the WiFi signal on my laptop.  Thank you.

    Go to the Intel website and use their system update tool.

    http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect/wireless-display

    It will recommend the upgrades to USB-IF xHCI USB host controller.... I have a new HP ENVY dv7 and I used the tool, updated the two recommended  upgrades and no more exclamation point in the Device Manager.

    Try it...
