Since resolving an issue with my ATI Video Driver recently, I have started getting the following errors, once a day, which cause my system to restart unexpectedly.

I believe this to be a driver issue, even though it looks like a hardware issue.

When it happens, I am usually watching TV on it via my XBOX Media Center Extender.

Event ID 20 - WHEA-Logger

A fatal hardware error has occurred.

Component: AMD Northbridge

Error Source: Machine Check Exception

Error Type: HyperTransport Watchdog Timeout Error

Processor APIC ID: 0

My Computer is a Dell XPS 7100 with an AMD Phenom II X6 1045T Processor and ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series graphics adaptor.

All Dell diagnostics run cleanly and successfully.

Can anyone advise what to do to investigate further please?

    I would like you to shed some light in my case

    Problem started after the Creator's update. Resets happened once or twice daily. One day the system failed to boot ( no post beeps only fans and mobo led switched on ). Read forums and everyone said the mobo is no more. So can frequent crashes harm hardware so much as to kill them? I bought a new mobo and faced the same problem but this time I had found the solution to turn off fastboot so its working properly now

    My BIOS was already updated to its latest version before my last sudden reboot, so that didn't do anything for me. So far, disabling fastboot seems to be good.

    I second that, my bios is up to date and I tried everything in the book to fix that error. (and as I have seen in this thread other repair technicians have failed to locate a user specific issue)

    I appreciate notonyourtintype attempt at an answer though it was lengthy only to come with "amd cpus have a specific instruction that grinds windows gears since november".

    Since this error is clearly not user related and based on an interaction between windows and the northbridge I sent a support ticket to  AMD and I encourage you guys to do the same, especially if your cpu is still under warranty.

    Also post or upvote the issue in the windows feedback app to let microsoft know.

    Yeah, that's a good idea.  I'll log a ticket with AMD when I get home today.
