task manager not starting error "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000006"

I have been hearing the Fans speed up to medium and High speed when I am doing nothing that would require any heavy duty resources. I tried both control-alt-delete and  right clicking in the taskbar, and it fails to start up. "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000006). Click on OK to terminate the application." I click on OK and it pops up again then I click on OK again and it goes away.

I have run AVG and Spybot in safe mode with networking but nothing detected.... and have cleared my page file memory also.

Is it just corrupted or do I have a bug/virus.

That's good. What I meant is that in order for YOU to see the file, you need to be able to see hidden and system files. Windows however will see the file no matter if YOU can see it or not.

In autoruns I beleive you did not click on "options", then "Filter Options"

Make sure all boxes are cleared in "Filter Options".

Tommorrow I would like for you to delete the task manager in HP-infected. And copy the task manager from Dell2 to HP-infected. Just in case the task manager was infected and actually starting up the malware.

See you tommorrow,

-Alex

Dave please don't suggest to use scanners now, Capt has multiple anti-malware programs installed and Capt very clearly said in earlier posts that he used TDSSKiller and it caused a suspicious BSOD.

I've already checked most of his auto-run entries aside from the microsoft ones. Scanning is not neccessary. If there is another piece of malware hiding, I'll be able to tell from a log from process monitor.

It would make things simpler if one person was helping him at a time to lower confusion. If I'm not able to resolve the problem, you can surely help out.

Sorry to both you and OP. I didn't realize he tried TDSSKiller. I must have missed that particular post. I'll quietly fade away now. :-)

For now stick to my post

After you complete my steps, check to see if you can open a fresh copy of task manager from dell2. If the problem persists, I will now be closer to pinpointing the culprit that it preventing you from opening task manager with a special program that monitors file system actions.

    Have you scanned for rootkits?

AVG and Spybot will not catch everything, that is for sure!

Start with TDSSKiller and report back:

Direct link to the standalone program:
