How to disable split screen in windows 8/8.1

Hello all,

I run several computer labs and we are about to introduce a boat load of windows 8 machines. The split screen mode allows a unique method for getting around our pc management system.  Does anyone know a way to turn off the split screen feature?

    Location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Scaling

    Key and Value: MonitorSize=12.1

     

     

    In my 8 x64 Professional, there is not a Key for "Scaling" under Explorer.  I'm assuming I should create this key and the subsequent "key" for "MonitorSize".  If this is true, what type of key should it be? ie: D-word, string, etc.

    So if they run Word, they can float it around and put other stuff next to it.  But if they run a metro app, they have to be forced to run it full screen and not have anything beside it.  I can't say I understand, it seems arbitrary to restrict one kind of app and not the other.  But I don't have to understand, I suppose.  I do hope that option gets you what you need.

     

     

    I'm not trying to be difficult or sound rude, but I feel like we are getting lost in translation here.  You know how in the RT/Metro user interface of Windows 8, when you run an app, it runs in full screen mode.  Well, Windows incorporated a feature that allows you split the UI so you can run either two apps, or an app and the traditional desktop.  In Windows 8, the split screen feature gives one app about a 1/4 of your screen and the other app (or traditional desktop) the rest.  In the 8.1 demo the ratio is 50:50.  This a cool feature for home users and private users. But for my uses, it is a pain in the neck.

    Nevermind, I tried all different types of value styles for the registry key.  None worked.  Thanks for your help.  I suggest using that feature.  It's pretty cool.  I just can't have it in my labs.

    I know how you feel, I'm running chrome and as soon as I try to move or close one of the tabs with my mouse I go to far up and that hand shows up. It's grate if your using 25' screen with 1900 resolution but with 17' laptop for just browsing internet and some it's a real pain in the....

    Please update to 8.1 as soon as you can (free update waiting for you in the Store app).  With this installed, the hand will no longer show if a program's window is maximized or even not-maximized but still touching the top of the screen.
