How to disable split screen in windows 8/8.1

Hello all,

I run several computer labs and we are about to introduce a boat load of windows 8 machines. The split screen mode allows a unique method for getting around our pc management system.  Does anyone know a way to turn off the split screen feature?

    Incoming windows patch 8.1.1 that could disable the metro let's see in April ...

    • shut down button
    • download status in metro
    • tool bar on metro apps 
    • no more full screen modern ui
    • less disk space usage

    OK, I found this suggestion in another thread. So far it has worked for my needs. Maybe some of you having this problem can use it too.

    my current work-around for this annoying issue

    go to control panel

    go to internet options

    go to programs tab

    under opening internet explorer choose 'always in ie on the desktop'

    keep ie full screen on the desktop but minimized to the task bar when not in use

    then clicking a link in metro windows mail will open that link full screen in ie on the desktop.

    Are you telling me I can't turn off split-screen in Windows 8 if I don't use the desktop. If so, I guess I can't use the Windows 8 Mail app to view my email messages. That's where I'm having the problem. Any time I click on a link in an email message, it opens in a split screen. Is there ANY way to make it open in a full screen? If not, what good is Windows 8 anyway? I really haven't found anything good about it yet.

    Just like I showed you in my picture above.  Simply go to the desktop, and then nothing will ever split ever again. Period, it will never happen if you are using the regular desktop.

    Sean Keene says....."if you don't want to split, don't do it." How do I NOT use split screen?

    Any time I open a click on a link in a window, the new window opens in the right half of the screen, and the old window moves to the left half of the screen. I just want the new window to open in the full screen, and when I close it, it should go back to the original screen. How can I make that happen? I don't want the screen to split ever!
