How to disable split screen in windows 8/8.1

Woah. Talk about fast replay. Really? Does it work for apps because I was talking about a app chrome. If so than that's grate. Also I will download it when I have some more time on my hands, my internet is somewhat slow and seeing how upgrade is 3.some GB it will take few hours. Anyways thanks so much.

Hmm alright.  Seems a bit like saying you can use Word and PowerPoint, but only maximized.  But I do actually think it's possible.  This registry key controls what monitor size the system is using (separate from resolution).  Changing this value was a trick to get the Start screen to show more tiles than it does by default on Surface RT (although 8.1 provides a switch to do this from the user's preferences rather than registry).

Location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Scaling

Key and Value: MonitorSize=12.1

That 12.1 refers to the screen size in inches (your value might be different or not set at all).  But I believe this is also used to determine if snapping is allowed.  I have yet to test it though (I'm on Windows 7 right now).

I just read this whole thread, and am more confused now than ever.  I am a personal user, with a Surface RT that has been upgraded to 8.1.  I would like to know how to shut off the darn thing going to a split screen when I am going from one page to another.  The only way to get the full screen back is to restart.  For example, I was in my NetFlix app and had forgotten my password.  I clicked forgot password, and it splits the screen to open IE.  That is fine and I understand that, but then how do I go back to full screen to view my app?  

Also, how do I change IE from being the default to Chrome?

I know how you feel, I'm running chrome and as soon as I try to move or close one of the tabs with my mouse I go to far up and that hand shows up. It's grate if your using 25' screen with 1900 resolution but with 17' laptop for just browsing internet and some it's a real pain in the....

So if they run Word, they can float it around and put other stuff next to it.  But if they run a metro app, they have to be forced to run it full screen and not have anything beside it.  I can't say I understand, it seems arbitrary to restrict one kind of app and not the other.  But I don't have to understand, I suppose.  I do hope that option gets you what you need.

 

 

I'm not trying to be difficult or sound rude, but I feel like we are getting lost in translation here.  You know how in the RT/Metro user interface of Windows 8, when you run an app, it runs in full screen mode.  Well, Windows incorporated a feature that allows you split the UI so you can run either two apps, or an app and the traditional desktop.  In Windows 8, the split screen feature gives one app about a 1/4 of your screen and the other app (or traditional desktop) the rest.  In the 8.1 demo the ratio is 50:50.  This a cool feature for home users and private users. But for my uses, it is a pain in the neck.
