Silverlight and Windows 8 RT

this is your opinion. Never said that Surface or Microsoft has no problem, but if you need a tablet just to watch Netflix, Facebook, Youtube... the market is full of a wide range of products and you can choose the best that fits your needs. With all its possible, gaps, bugs to be fixed, at the moment the only tablet on the market that allows you to do the same things the other tablets do plus working is Surface. The other tablets are only for entertainment, Surface for entertainment and working.

Hope they fix bugs normal for such a big release as 8.1 and you are always free to buy the brand you think is the best, the coolest...

Unifying desktops, cells, tablets, laptops and all the possible devices can come up during the next years is not easy, Microsoft is trying to do it, the road is long and these are normal inconveniences  on this journey.

the plug-ins (like silverlight, whatever) will come back eventually. the history repeats. the key is that the plug-ins should be regulated by ms or browser vendors so that it can't be a source of malware or cause a stability problem. look at google. they're all in to create and promote their plug-ins. just let the war begins explicitly. who cares about the standard. the best expereince comes first. i don't mind using ie and chrome together.

hence, i can't really undersyand. how come adbe flash works but not silverlight on windows rt? it sucks.

fyi, i recentely bought surface 2. it's a brilllant h/w but some s/w glitches make it suck. for example, the youtube.com page loading takes forever. the speaker is making jiggling sound. both issues seem to be universal. i feel like beta testing this ****. hence, ms's return policy also sucks. i should have waited until it's available from amazon.

yeah. i'll keep complaining for next 2 weeks and if my complaint dosn't reach ballmer i'll return this surface 2 through all my means. perhaps, there are lots of people who will do. so, complaints really matters and it gives an opportunity to ms to fix problems.

I'd like to say a very simple thing apart all the very technical comments. Silverlight is a program created for PCs, x86 architecture. Most of times is used for watching TV channels on internet. If you have an ipad you don't use Silverlight because if available you use the specific App, because Silverlight doesn't run with an ARM processor. The problem for the Surface users is that when you connect to a website that needs Silverlight, the website sees you have  Windows OS, it doesn't sees Silverlight installed in your OS so it offers you to download it, when you try to download it your Windows RT says that it is not possible and suggests you to visit the Store. People no so tech savvy try to look for Silverlight on the Store, they don't find it and instead of looking for the App of that specific TV channel they swear at Microsoft. The good thing for ipad is that the website understands you have an ipad and, if available, it drives you straight to the App Store to download the specific App. The procedure is so fast that many times the user does not understand he/she is using an App to watch that content and they say:" My ipad has no problem to watch content on internet, it doesn't need anything". Actually ipad is not magic, it works with apps like all the other tablets in the market, Surface included. If you would like to blame Microsoft do it, but just because they should let some websites able to recognize an RT OS and drive the user straight to the App Store like for ipad. Silverlight, unless Microsoft decides for a small revolution, will never work on an ARM platform, whatever is the tablet or the OS. People should appreciate what they can do with Surface that IOS or Android can not. Just to be clear, I am not defending Microsoft, we can talk for ages about many issues all of us we faced in years of PC use, just to be honest when they do something good like Surface that, I would like to remind, it is a TABLET and as the Apple users do not ask to install a program born for MAC on an ipad, I really hope that Microsoft users stop to ask to turn upside down a program born for a PC to have it on the Surface, which is a TABLET and it works, like all the other tablets with Apps and not with .exe.

They have made it very clear that they aren't going to do that.  In fact, for the most part, Microsoft pretty much now acts like they wish Silverlight never existed in the first place., even though it is probably the best thing they have created in the past 5 years.

Short answer, no there's no way to make it work

Not unless they make an app for the Windows Store
