Silverlight and Windows 8 RT

Just found out that Sky Go requires silverlight as well.  Currently sky don't seem to want to support the Microsoft World working mainly with Apple and Android.

I love the fact that this discussion has been going on for two years and there is no real definitive answer.

It just means that I will have to take two tablets with me when i go away.  Are microsfot going to pay for excess baggage??

So although Silverlight is not available... most of the video services now work.  Those that don't work through the websites seem to have all released a window's application that is available through the app store.  

Lisa, Lovefilm is a major provider, owned by Amazon, and it doesn't work on Windows RT either in the web browser or via an app.  And it's not just entertainment channels that don't work.  I have to access video website for work sometimes, such as the UK Parliament site, and that doesn't work either. 

Rather than making all the providers re-write their sites to be compatible with RT it would have been much smarter if they had made RT compatible with them.  Working with the world as it is, rather than as they would wish it to be. 

Hopefully the new management of Microsoft will be a bit more savvy.  They have some great technology but they haven't leveraged it effectively because, with RT and in many other ways, they haven't finished the job.

I originally replied to this with the same question as everyone else and through further research found that although MS was not releasing Silverlight on the Windows 8RT  they were releasing updates to allow most of the video service providers websites to work on the tablet.

I will say that it took a FULLLLLLL weekend of downloading windows updates and starting and restarting my tablet and restarting scan for more updates.... However, after ALLLL updates were installed... Xfinity & Amazon video as well as several others work without issue on my tablet.

So although Silverlight is not available... most of the video services now work.  Those that don't work through the websites seem to have all released a window's application that is available through the app store.  

Again... You have run the windows updater and install ALL updates.... reboot and repeat until no additional updates are found.  

Still does not cover the issues with logging into classes or secure corporate sites....

I can't believe Microsoft's Silverlight is not supported on Microsoft's Windows RT. It is a joke that Lovefilm works on an Apple iPad and not on Windows RT. Lovefilm, Blinkbox and Clubcard TV use Silverlight and I can't view any films. So much for a multimedia tablet. I am going to return my RT tablet too! What a joke!

Almost a year later and I too find it incredible.  Lovefilm still doesn't work on Windows RT.  There are many other platforms such as the Parliament channel that you can't use. Microsoft show their new platforms like Windows 8 Metro and RT no love and Microsoft arrogantly expect their customers to fit around them rather than the other way around.  Then MS wonders why nobody buys its new software.  Unbelievable!

Hopefully with the departure of Sinofski and now Ballmer, they might start listening to customers again. Silverlight is a good platform and it's no good replacing it with some theoretical HTML/Java language that not only doesn't properly exist yet, it might well never exist because it's incapable of doing what its proponents claim.  We could also do without people like HAL_2010 claiming that the absence of Silverlight and other core functionality is all ok or to be expected, when it clearly isn't.

The answer is NO, RT is nor able to use Silverlight.  I noticed the moderator dodged the question and gave you a longwinded answer. Buried inside an article that didn't really answer your question.
