I can't update my Windows 8 Apps in start screen. Tried all steps and get stuck on this DISM Command. The /scanhealth completed successfully though but this /restorehealth didn't. It says DISM Failed. No Operation Was Performed. For More Information, Please Review the Log File.

As per the description provided I understand that you are unable to perform app update, it would be grateful if you can reply to this question in order to assist you further.

·         Have you made any changes to the computer to this issue?

This problem may occur if the Windows Update database is corrupted. I would suggest you to try the following methods and check if it helps.

Method 1:

I would suggest you to run the Windows update troubleshooter and check if it helps.

a) Press the ‘Windows + W’ key on the keyboard.

b) Type troubleshooter in the search box and then press enter.

c) Select Troubleshooting. Click on view all and select Windows Update and follow the on-screen instructions.

Method 2:

You may disable the Proxy setting and check if it helps:

a. Follow these steps and check if it helps.

a. **** Press Windows Key +R, typeinetcpl.cpl and press enter.

b. **** Click the Connections tab, and then click LAN settings.

c. Uncheck the Use a proxy server for your LAN check box.

d. Click Ok.

Method 3:

  1. Type Notepad on start screen, and press enter.
  2. Copy the following text, and then paste the text into Notepad.

net stop wuauserv

cd %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution

ren Download Download.old

net start wuauserv

net stop bits

net start bits

net stop cryptsvc

cd %systemroot%\system32

ren catroot2 catroot2old

net start cryptsvc

  1. Click File, click Save As, and then type Repair.bat.
  2. In the Save as type box, click All Files.
  3. In the Save in box, click Desktop, and then click Save.
  4. On the File menu, click Exit.
  5. Double-click the Repair.bat file that you saved in step 5.

Try to install the updates again. If you can install the updates, delete the Repair.bat file. To do this, right-click Repair.bat, click Delete, and then click Yes.

Please follow all the steps and if the issue persists, revert back and we will be glad to help you.

    This was the final outcome of the last DISM prompt:

    DISM failed.

    It looks I am stuck with having to send the laptop back to HP...

    Kathy sorry it did not help. I am having a problem getting DISM to work since I rolled over to windows 10, I am using a different version than you. The info I sent you is using the version 6.3.9600.17031 the same as the one you are using. I don't think you need to send the laptop back to HP, but you might get tech support on the horn and they may be able to help you out that way.

    Now for my problem:

    I am having a problem locating the necessary file to run DISM. I had windows 8.1 but when I installed Windows 10 DISM it was working and it is not. I am using DISM Version 10.0.10240.16384. Can anyone help me get it back on track?

    Thanks, I have tried everything for months and hoped this would help.  The last updates I was able to install was 7/11/15!  I give up, buying a new system.  Thanks for the tips anyway.

    I had the same problem in windows 10. The problem is you are using C:windows .old\windows\system32>. The key part is the ".old". Right  click, make sure you right click the start I con in the left corner, a popup will appear with the command prompt (Admin) click on it and see if the command line shows with out the windows.old It should look like this C:\WINDOWS\system32>. I think that when we install windows 10 we carry over a few old items and that is because if you role back you will use those I cons.

    Try it and let me know how you make out.
