You're getting error 0x800f0906 because you have KB3022345 installed. Uninstall it by going to Programs and Features in Control Panel and then click the link to "View installed updates".

In the Search box top right, copy/paste (or type) KB3022345 and when it appears in the list, right click it and choose Uninstall.

It sounds to me like you're trying to run those commands from a standard command prompt.

You need to run them from an elevated one, that is to say, the type which runs with Administrator rights. There's a link to one on the power user's menu which opens when you right click the Start button. Here's a screenshot of it.

    Quite so, LarryTX,

I bought a new system because of the "WinXP will no longer be supported" scare in April 2014. And I have had nothing but problems with windows 8.1 from the get-go. In XP, I hardly ever had BSODs or kernel mode trouble. In Win 8.1, I am constantly chasing troubleshoot forums to help me with all the problems I have been having, and just when you think you've solved the whole driver updates shebang on a previous problem, the PC keeps restarting itself at least 3 times a day the day after: another ****-poor driver that's letting you down and causing kernel crashes !! I've had it up to here !

    **** is this, Microsoft **** ???

I'm on Windows 10 Pro, the November Update, Version 1511, (OS Build 10586.3).

I was getting the that error, and error"0x800f081f the source file could not be found..." if I tried to do it offline,

over and over again, trying to run "sfc /scannow" and "dism......" commands. I was trying to use the iso I downloaded directly from the Microsoft Upgrade link via the MediaCreationToolx64. No go, time after time, over the span of a couple days.

I finally downloaded the 1511 iso from TechBench. I "mounted" the image and ran the following:

    "Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:wim:H:\sources\install.wim:1 /limitaccess"

(I think "LimitAccess" prevents DISM from going online to Windows Update to download the files.)

Anyway, after downloading and "mounting" the TechBench ".wim" version, everything completed successfully and the component store, etc, was cleaned up nicely. Rebooted and ran "sfc /scannow" again. No integrity errors found.

Don't know why the download via Microsoft Upgade wouldn't work. I even tried using "install.esd" in place of .wim. It wouldn't work either. Only the TechBench download worked. I suspect there is some kind of corruption in the Microsoft Upgrade direct iso

    • just a guess.

In any event, Happy Camper now!

    Hope this helps someone.
