Windows Update is able to run and I am able to download all updates.

You're getting error 0x800f0906 because you have KB3022345 installed. Uninstall it by going to Programs and Features in Control Panel and then click the link to "View installed updates".
In the Search box top right, copy/paste (or type) KB3022345 and when it appears in the list, right click it and choose Uninstall.

This worked...I hate when Microsoft puts out **** software.......I had two computers dealing with this problem... Now I am free and clear. I almost don't want to even try Windows 10.... And the funny thing is, their tech support is worthless...their first answer is always....format your hard drive and reinstall Windows.

If you don't want Windows 10, you should also uninstall KB3035583. It creates a folder at the following location: C:\Windows\system32\GWX. The GWX folder contains a file called GWXUXWorker.EXE which is the prompt/downloader to install it when it becomes available towards the end of July. Uninstalling it removes that folder and all its contents.

I'd had this problem before and forgot - the thing must have re-installed itself again recently!
You really do despair when a "Tier 1 technician" (if you can get to one) only knows how to do a virus search (which you've already done) and it needs a "Tier 2 technician" to tell you how to reinstall Windows! And, if you need something more complicated, which any competent user would.....It really brings "tiers" to my eyes. Is there a non-moron tier?
