Windows Update is able to run and I am able to download all updates.

You're getting error 0x800f0906 because you have KB3022345 installed. Uninstall it by going to Programs and Features in Control Panel and then click the link to "View installed updates".
In the Search box top right, copy/paste (or type) KB3022345 and when it appears in the list, right click it and choose Uninstall.

Hi all,
Had the same problem. It was driving me crazy. Finally solved it by repairing W8 first (refresh using a W8 install CD, using another installation key). All other options reparing the W8 didn't work. Talking about it with others (even from Microsoft) I hear this is a common problem?
It costed me a few mandays (nights) trying to solve it.
In the end I was happy by the clean install, as one allways is with a clean install, but the time-investment was huge (installing all the s/w again).
I even made a call to MS through a MS partner, but the call wasn't followed up.
Maybe not an ideal solution, but at least it worked....

DId you ever figure out how to fix this problem.
I can't get rid of this issue and I think it is preventing me from upgrading to 8.1.
I hope you can help. Nothing else posted works.
This is a bad one from Microsoft. Why is that we have to go through hoops to upgrade something that Microsoft is managing all by themselves. If something goes bad at this level, then Microsoft should be jumping the hoops themselves. I am frustrated, 2 days wasting time on this and nothing works.
Never ending fail. DISM fails, cant find source or download, specify source .wim, .iso, online offline. tried with every setting possible, policies Microsoft assistance fails, windows update fails. Microsoft fail. Me jumping on the 'discount' to 'upgrade' to 8 = fail. No doubt windows 8 has taken years off my life on top of countless hours wasted with the issues. self-corrupting and unrepairable windows 8. But hey, since we're all suckers, we now have the ability to experience this on a tablet! Microsoft solution - waste **** load of time trying copy and paste solutions and when they fail, lose everything and reinstall , 3 -4 months later... repeat
Why was it necessary to run the DISM Command on your machine in the first place? What problems were you having?

Do you have any problems (the original problems), if you create a new user and test with the new user rather than your current user?
Most new machines come with a recovery partition allowing you to go back to the time of purchase, you will have to check your user guides for instructions. Choosing that path requires you to save all valuable data first.
These options are built-in to Windows 8 also.
