Is there a systematic approach to resolving these problems? My sense so far is that we are on a goose chase. instead of figuring out what is the underlying problems and starting there.

How is the Immersive Control Panel problem with WU and FH not working related to DISM not being able to repair files? And Windows not being able to start normally?

Rant: this should not be magic. I am an average user with a technical background and find this process an incredible time-sink. I will be in the market for a new laptop soon and ALL my friends with a programming job is pointing in another direction than MS. Experiences like this certainly encourage such a decision. Last time I used an Apple product was in 1985, Rant end.

I was able to get WU to start (with net start wuauserv) and checking for updates. BUT I never saw the outcome unsure what happened. And I was unable to redo it! I could restart WU OK, but then got the Immersive Control Panel error message.

Looking at the CBS log it looks like WU found 276 files that were corrupted!!!

For your first link.  

#1 sfc /scannow does not work. But it's only one file:  amd64\cnbj2530.dpb that it cannot repair. Quote from the log: "this component was referenced by Microsoft Windows Printers Drivers Package". I cannot understand if that failure has any major impact on my system. Goose chase?

#2 Register The Link, which seems to work for most people that responded on the page. But it did not work for me

#3 requires rebooting the system, which I am trying to avoid before I am convinced that the system in a state that it is partly repaired.

Your second link suggests sfc /scannow, which is included above. Did I miss something?

Your third link is a general search result. Not sure what your guidance is here?

Mounting an .iso is built in to Windows and will allowe the extraction of specific (known) files.  Of course you have to have an .iso image in the first place.

Thank you for your advice. In my case I do not have a problem Windows update/Immersive Control. I do have a problem with SFC and DISM as described previously. I have now rerun SFC, and then followed the approach suggested in your message for selecting the relevant subset of the log. It showed a number of modules corrupted which could not be repaired by SFC.

Unfortunately the recommendation for manual repair in the last link does not work for me. Like most other users I do not have access to or keep a spare copy of a duplicate uncorrupted Windows system to use for manually replacing my corrupted modules.

If there is anyone from Microsoft looking at this MS Community website, it would be most helpful if they could advise on resoving this and related problems. Specifically, I think it is reasonable to assume that Microsoft does have accesss to uncorrupted copies of current Windows systems. Is there any reason why these can not be used by the SFC process to replace the corrupted modules? If this is beyond the capabilities of Microsoft coders, then at the very least clean copies of the Windows modules should be made available to users for the suggested manual process.
