Windows Update is able to run and I am able to download all updates.

You're getting error 0x800f0906 because you have KB3022345 installed. Uninstall it by going to Programs and Features in Control Panel and then click the link to "View installed updates".

In the Search box top right, copy/paste (or type) KB3022345 and when it appears in the list, right click it and choose Uninstall.

    The last two suggestion work outside of the Windows environment and are loaded as a self booting program.

    Most new machines come with a recovery partition allowing you to go back to the time of purchase, you will have to check your user guides (or the manufacturer's Web Site) for instructions.  Choosing that path requires you to save all valuable data first.  Unfortunately upgrading to Windows 8.1 may lose such Recovery Partition.

    These options are built-in to Windows 8 also.

    I have the same problem and extremely frustrated.

    Unfortunately my laptop was preloaded with windows so I am unable to reload/install as suc6 was able to do.

    From START screen no problem

    Select any of the icons and screen flashes with icon ending in task bar

    And that is it - can't open. Will also appear when drag cursor over top right corner, select and blank screen appears with title (eg Skype) and then disappears. this loop continues???

    No idea what to do any other OS?

    Hi,

    i use win 8.0 sometimes when i do a disk cleanup it corrupts my system and sfc gives me unfixable errors.

    i found this fix somewhere on here a while ago and its always worked so far.

    the person said you need to run this sequence of repairs and restarts. I just follow it but maybe some of the steps are superfluous.

    step1. Sfc /scannow

    step 2. Restart

    Step3. Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

    step4. Restart

    step5. Sfc /scannow

    step6. Restart

    step7. Dism /Online /Cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

    step8. Restart

    step9.  sfc /scannow

    step10. Restart

    step3 appears to be critical since without it i usually can't make the repair.

    also you may have to run the sequence more than once.

    win 8.1 is different from 8.0 so i have not tried it to repair the latter.

    i just used it today and it also worked

    I was having the same problem and followed your advice; I uninstalled KB3022345 and ran/re-ran DISM and still getting errors.  I also followed the advice on the Tech Cookbook (http://thetechcookbook.com/windows-8-update-kb3022345-causing-corrupt-files/) and still it seems my machine has slow response times, and doing strange things. 

    Is there any other scan or patch that you know that can be ran / applied to pinpoint the problem?
