Hi Hrishikesh,

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I would like you to add few information:

Did you make any hardware or software changes on the computer prior to this issue?

I would suggest you to make sure that all the cables for the printer are connected properly and the printer is turned ON. Sometimes, offline status for a printer could be due no power to the printer. You also need to make sure that network sharing might be turned off.

For more information, refer to the link:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/turn-sharing-on-or-off

If all the basic settings are checked and are up to the mark, you can follow the methods to troubleshoot the issue:

Method 1:

You can refer to the link to fix printer issues by running the printer troubleshooter:

“Fix printer problems

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/printer-problems-in-windows-help#fix-printer-problems=windows-8&v1h=win8tab1&v2h=win7tab1&v3h=winvistatab1&v4h=winxptab1

Method 2:

I would suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the driver for the printer.

You can follow the steps to do so:

Note: Please make sure that you have the setup file for the driver of the printer before uninstalling the current version.

a) Press Windows and x key together and click on Device Manager.

b) Locate the printer driver and expand the driver icon.

c) Right click on the driver icon and click on Uninstall.

d) Follow the onscreen instructions to uninstall the driver.

e) Locate the setup file of the driver for the printer.

f) Double Click on the setup file and follow the onscreen instructions to reinstall the driver.

Check if you are able to find the printer online.

We have Ricoh's, which did not fix the issue. That was the first thing we tried.

Thanks for your input. My HP 7440 now seems to stay on line even after multiple power off sequences.

Since Microsoft is of no help and usually blames the computer this community is the only means of finding an answer to a problem.

Right click on the link and click "Translate with Bing".  It should open a new tab with the article in English.

I have a Brother HL5730 DW printer, with a static IP address (does not change). . The printer does NOT broadcast wirelessly by itself; it is conected vie Ethernet to a Lynksys wireless router. I have three computers: An HP Pavilion running WIndows 7 Pro, an HP ELiteBook running Windows 8.1 Pro, and a MacBookPro running Mac OS 10.10.1 ("Yosemite"). The EliteBook is at the vortex of the problem.

After the Windows 8.1 November update, the ElitebBok's credentials manager locked up and i  was advised to erase and reinstall Windows, which I did.

Ever since then, when I go to print from the EliteBook, get spooler error messages or the printer is grayed out in Devices and Printers. Spend 2 hours on the phone between HP tech support (have an extended warranty) and Brother tech support, and reinstalled Brother's drivers several times per instructions. They both blamed the problem on Microsoft and referred me to them.

The EliteBook DID successfully print when connected to the printer by a USB cable. Unfortunately, that made the printer unavailable to the other two computers on my network. Even after unplugging the Elitebook, I had to do a hard printer reset (involved clicking a button six time) before the other two computers would print to the Brother again.

And yes, both the Windows computers have Kaspersky, and also Malwarebytes. Turning them off did not help. Is there ANY solution out there?

(Thought about clicking ruby shoes together three times but I don't have time to find the Wicked Witch of the Northwest., and the Redmond police would probably frown on that.)
