Original Title: I have hp laserjet 1020 plus printer installed on win 7 it was a share printer when i was giving any print from win8 pc printer is going to offline & when i remove & add printer its working

i was installed win8 latest  drivers on all pc

I would like you to add few information:

Did you make any hardware or software changes on the computer prior to this issue?

I would suggest you to make sure that all the cables for the printer are connected properly and the printer is turned ON. Sometimes, offline status for a printer could be due no power to the printer.You also need to make sure that network sharing might be turned off.

If all the basic settings are checked and are up to the mark, you can follow the methods to troubleshoot the issue:

Method 1:

Method 2:

I would suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the driver for the printer.

You can follow the steps to do so:

Note: Please make sure that you have the setup file for the driver of the printer before uninstalling the current version.

a) Press Windows and x key together and click on Device Manager.

b) Locate the printer driver and expand the driver icon.

c) Right click on the driver icon and click on Uninstall.

d) Follow the onscreen instructions to uninstall the driver.

e) Locate the setup file of the driver for the printer.

f) Double Click on the setup file and follow the onscreen instructions to reinstall the driver.

Check if you are able to find the printer online.

    I couldn't agree with you more Linda...I just bought a new laptop with windows 8 and I have more problems with it, especially with the printer being offline all the time...I hate it!  I just don't know what to do at this point?!!! So Frustrating!!! I want XP back!

    I had exactly the same problem you described.  The problem was that the IP address for the printer was being dynamically assigned via the DHCP protocol by the router.  Windows was using that IP address to access the printer.  If the printer went to sleep for a long time, the router could not renew the lease on the IP address.  When the printer later woke up, it would request a new IP address from the router, which didn't necessarily match the old one that Windows was still using.  When Windows tried to use the old IP address, it would get no response from the printer, hence it would say the printer was offline.

    Here the solution to the problem, which worked for me, using Windows 8:

    Control panel --> View devices and printers

    Right-click the printer in question, and select "See what's printing."

    Left-click the Printer menu option, and select Properties.

    Left click the Ports menu option, and push the Configure Ports button.

    Where it says "Printer Name or IP address" enter the Node Name of the printer, instead of an IP address.  This way it will always stay current with what the router assigns to it.  The Node Name can be obtained by printing a Printer information sheet directly from the printer.  Alternatively, you can go the Computer Files Menu, and clicking the Network button.  The Node Name of all the other computers and network printers that are accessible to your LAN should be listed.

    After you have entered the Node Name of your network printer, push the OK button.  When I did this, all the print jobs in the queue started printing, and the printer was once again online.

    I hope this helps anyone who has a similar problem.
