Original Title: I have hp laserjet 1020 plus printer installed on win 7 it was a share printer when i was giving any print from win8 pc printer is going to offline & when i remove & add printer its working

i was installed win8 latest  drivers on all pc

I would like you to add few information:

Did you make any hardware or software changes on the computer prior to this issue?

I would suggest you to make sure that all the cables for the printer are connected properly and the printer is turned ON. Sometimes, offline status for a printer could be due no power to the printer.You also need to make sure that network sharing might be turned off.

If all the basic settings are checked and are up to the mark, you can follow the methods to troubleshoot the issue:

Method 1:

Method 2:

I would suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the driver for the printer.

You can follow the steps to do so:

Note: Please make sure that you have the setup file for the driver of the printer before uninstalling the current version.

a) Press Windows and x key together and click on Device Manager.

b) Locate the printer driver and expand the driver icon.

c) Right click on the driver icon and click on Uninstall.

d) Follow the onscreen instructions to uninstall the driver.

e) Locate the setup file of the driver for the printer.

f) Double Click on the setup file and follow the onscreen instructions to reinstall the driver.

Check if you are able to find the printer online.

    And yet another discovery. Why is it that when I remove a printer, the IP connections to the printer appear to remain? Why is it when I add a new instance of the printer, it has to make it a copy? Currently I am on Copy 2 with no other instances of the printer appearing in control panel.

    Looking at the printer ports for the current instance of the printer, I find the following:

    192.168.1.100 - Printer FX DP C2120 >> one of the deleted instances of the printer

    192.168.1.102

    192.168.1.102_1

    192.168.1.103

    192.168.1.103_1

    192.168.1.103_2 - Printer DX DP C2120 (Copy 2) >> The current instance of the printer

    This looks like a mess, it appears that the remove process doesn't clean up after itself.

    Before you ask me Ratandeep:

    Like many people have found over the last few years, unchecking the offline option is irrelevant, as in many cases it isn't checked. I have toggled  it on and off numerous times over the last few months as a matter of course, after reading it in a post from 2010. Mind you, I have yet to see an explanation of why the OS would toggle this flag of its own accord. If you think this can happen, then perhaps Microsoft should fix the bug, as it has been offered as a solution for 5 years.

    As for trying the wireless network troubleshooting, given that I am connecting to the internet via the wireless ADSL modem that the printer is connected to, I suspect it is working. Given that when I remove and re-add the printer and it works, I again suspect that the wireless network is working.

    Let me point out again that by removing the printer and re-connecting it, the printer works. After a few days I try to use the printer again and it doesn't work. This is THE SAME problem that numerous people have raised for MANY different brands and models of printer. As such it is unlikely to be a print driver. If it is, then quite a few manufacturers have the same bug over several version of Windows.

    People have been reporting similar behavior since 2009 in Windows 7 and the problem continues in Windows 8. This is a reasonably common problem reported literally hundreds of times in multiple threads in several versions of Windows for more than 5 years. I originally solved the problem by using the USB connection, but it became too much of a nuisance for me to manage this.

    So why does Microsoft still persist in avoiding actually investigating the problems.

    Let me ask you a question, did you read the last sentence of my post? Can you explain why when I remove a printer, the OS deletes the displayed entry but doesn't appear to actually delete it? This happens in both Windows 7 and 8.

    I ask again, IS THIS THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM?

    With all due respect Ratandeep, most of us on this forum are well past the simple options of fiddling with some Windows menus. 

    We could do with some heavy-duty help.
