How do you turn off Fullscreen mode in Windows 8?

Despite all of the annoyances of Windows 8, I must say, the random "switching to fullscreen mode" is the most aggravating. . I thought I turned off full screen mode, but it keeps doing that fullscreen.... thing. It's done it -at least- 5 times while I typed this.

Sorry, but on my 40" Monitor with 4096x2160 this is not modern. This is just back to flintstones, irritating, un-usefull and silly.

I think, windows 8 is not made for flintstone, so somebody in the design departement has made a mistake.

I really don't know, what fullscreen ist good for; my screen hat 40" with 4096 x 2160 and in full screen mode I'm searching for minutes on the screen for buttons to press or fields to entrer.

Is windows 8 probably only made for legacy people with 17" screens?

I think, Windows 10 has learned this lesson.

    Great answer, nice description.

Fullcreen is the most crazy thin ever, exceptionally for watching video.

Every kind of work requires the flexibility you told us about.

    Thanks.

Sorry, but you simply try to cover severe design errors of microsoft behind some crazy work-arounds wich my properly fit into the kind of operating YOU are used to.

I am not.    Like many others!

Hi Babu V, I do not think your answer helps.

"All the apps will open in full screen mode it is by design and we cannot turn it off. It isthe main feature of Windows 8*, and it is also called as*modern Interface."

Modern feature for what? Smartphones, Tablets? It could be. However I this time I have installed it on my desktop and suppose to work with more one applications/screens at the time. I am not happy at all with this modern and restrictive feature.

And by the way, talking about "modern" features, Skype is getting worse too, for desktops and laptops.

    fwiw, re the tip page;

"Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Ease of Access Center

and the selection "Make the mouse easier to use"

The checkbox now reads "prevent windows from being automatically arranged"

I just had to execute this on a new 8.1 computer with latest updates and it seems to prevent windows from going full screen when "moused over"

Hope that this information is helpful,

    Beverly Howard
