How do you turn off Fullscreen mode in Windows 8?

With all respect that is due, THIS IS SAD. To tell us that this occurrence is by design does validate our sanity, as it helps us realize this is not our fault, as in not from anything WE as users are doing wrong. But it is in NO other way helpful. I woke up one day to find that I could not see more than one thing on my desktop at a time (archaic and constraining), and that I had no control over the size of what was on my desktop. I hope I wake up another day to find that Cinderella is back at the ball, in other words, that the display is back the way it used to be (so that I can multitask, drag items from one file to another, and set items at sizes that are comfortable for my eyes). If not, and if mutiny were financially feasible, I think you'd find Microsoft out of a LOT of customers.

has the answer, I tried it and it works.  Go to Control Panel---then select "Ease of Access"--then select "Make The Mouse Easier To Use" ----then go down the age to "Make it easier to manage Windows" and CHECK THE BOX for "Prevent windows from being automatically arranged when moved to the edge of the screen"

This worked for me after two years of frustration!! with Windows 8

I have figured out how,

1.Move your pointer to the top of the screen, the web address and stuff should appear

2.Right click

3. Choose exit full screen mode

Otherwise I have no idea how to  leave fullscreen

fwiw, re the tip page;

"Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Ease of Access Center

and the selection "Make the mouse easier to use"

The checkbox now reads "prevent windows from being automatically arranged" 

I just had to execute this on a new 8.1 computer with latest updates and it seems to prevent windows from going full screen when "moused over"
