I wonder if your touchpad is using the gesture for Modern UI menu, which happens to make the window fullscreen for Chrome. It invokes the menu in all Modern apps when the touchpad is swiped from the top or bottom. Happened to me until I turned the feature off in my ASUS gesture app that came with the tablet, may be Synaptics on yours. Hope that helps.
How do you turn off Fullscreen mode in Windows 8?
Despite all of the annoyances of Windows 8, I must say, the random "switching to fullscreen mode" is the most aggravating. . I thought I turned off full screen mode, but it keeps doing that fullscreen.... thing. It's done it -at least- 5 times while I typed this.

2014-02-22T21:34:23+00:00 full screen mode isn't useful in some contexts -- sometimes I want to open a PDF in a window. It's still windows, right? Then I can have the PDF next to another app I'm using. So I don't get how this is modern or some improvement over prior windows versions.
