KB 2670838 - The EVIL UPDATE

Why don't you fix the errors caused by KB 2670838 instead of having my computer re-install it as part of IE 10 without giving me any warning that it was going to do that?

This update has two effects on my system*; 1. For whatever reason, it turns the lower taskbar turquoise, 2. Explorer 9 or 10 and Chrome 25 get a 60 delay in information typed into them with internet speeds reminiscent of dial-up, while Firefox 19 ceases to function at all; The internet becomes essentially non-usable.

I wasted an entire day on this two weeks ago including an hour on the phone with one of your technicians when it was first installed.  He had no idea what the problem was and I eventually gave up and uninstalled it.  My problems ceased immediately upon its removal.

I had to go to an internet forum to learn that many people had these problems and how to set my updates to not automatically be installed.  That proved to be no help as when installing IE10 this EVIL UPDATE (KB 2670838) just re-appeared again with no notice in your description that this might happen.  Now I guess I will never install an update again since you provide no clues as to what it could do.

* My system info:

HP Envy, Windows 7 Home Premium, two screens attached using an HP usb notebook port replicator.  Buy the way, this HP port replicator is a piece of garbage that has to be rebooted (the replicator - not the PC) as it freezes once or twice a day.  But I thinks that's on HP - not you.

    We can Manage MACs with ConfigManager now.  Use whatever OS you like.  But we all know you will need a Windows VM for any kind of full enterprise functionality.  I'm a consultant.  I see it all the time.  Half the MACs I see in the airport have a Windows VM full screened to perform their work.  And when it isn't that, what do I see? Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.  You may call this "the door falling off of it's hinges, I call it a door that has been open for years.  Did you know Apple paid Microsoft to use the ActiveSync client on the iPhone?

    My point is, Apple fans can say over an over that their machines are better.  They are pretty, I'll give you that.  I like the fact that some of the stuff is at the top of the screen.  But what about Direct Access?  Ease of Certificate deployment?  Maybe a little Group Policy?  The operating system is not ready for prime time until it is fully integrated into directory services and managed as EASY as a windows device.  Yes, I said easy.  Windows desktop OS is Cake, and as long as you don't have Automatic Updates enabled (you should not in an enterprise), you read the KB article, and you TEST the deployment with your test users (at least 2 users from each OS build) you will not run into this issue.  MS is constantly improving on their products like anyone else. 

    To recap, Do not say "Okay" to installing prerequisite updates if you don't know which ones they are and you haven't read or tested accordingly.

    KB 2670838 - Maybe Not So EVIL

    I've being searching for a solution for the ieframe.dll and MSHTML.dll errors that prevented me from using ie10 or 11. I also had a problem with an application hanging because it used some of the ie platform. The support people there told me to try installing KB2670838. I did and all of my problems with the ie10 and 11 platforms went away. Apparently the an older version didn't provide the functionality to support these newer frameworks. I am using ie 11.0.9600.1642815, Chrome 32.0.1700.107 (Official Build 248368) and Firefox 27,0. They are all working fine. If the support person for my hanging application hadn't suggested this KB item, I'd still be looking in a week of searching I found no search that indicated ie10 and 11 browsers needed an up to date version of KB2670838. I'd still be searching. So much thanks to the reimage support person.
