KB 2670838 - The EVIL UPDATE

Why don't you fix the errors caused by KB 2670838 instead of having my computer re-install it as part of IE 10 without giving me any warning that it was going to do that?

This update has two effects on my system*; 1. For whatever reason, it turns the lower taskbar turquoise, 2. Explorer 9 or 10 and Chrome 25 get a 60 delay in information typed into them with internet speeds reminiscent of dial-up, while Firefox 19 ceases to function at all; The internet becomes essentially non-usable.

I wasted an entire day on this two weeks ago including an hour on the phone with one of your technicians when it was first installed.  He had no idea what the problem was and I eventually gave up and uninstalled it.  My problems ceased immediately upon its removal.

I had to go to an internet forum to learn that many people had these problems and how to set my updates to not automatically be installed.  That proved to be no help as when installing IE10 this EVIL UPDATE (KB 2670838) just re-appeared again with no notice in your description that this might happen.  Now I guess I will never install an update again since you provide no clues as to what it could do.

* My system info:

HP Envy, Windows 7 Home Premium, two screens attached using an HP usb notebook port replicator.  Buy the way, this HP port replicator is a piece of garbage that has to be rebooted (the replicator - not the PC) as it freezes once or twice a day.  But I thinks that's on HP - not you. 

im thinking thatthese updates dont benerfit the user 1 ioata,they are solely there for the benefit of microsoft and our lovely money spending tyranical government,it wouldnt bother me so much but they are spending our tax money on things that are no benefit to we the people ,id bet everything i have that they are spending our money to destroy us ,as a matter of fact , not to mention they are blantantly giving our money away to forien countrys like africa and israel by the dump truck load like we have it to give,gee if they got it like that ,i would like a 2011 zo7 carbon fiber corvette and a new zx15 supercharged kawasaki,hows bout it obama could you spare a roll of quarters to get me a couple of vehicles

Glad we got that cleared up and I'm even gladder :-) that I switched off my automatic update installs about 2 months ago. I usually go back and forth - for different reasons. This time I did it because I was working on a file in photoshop when apparantly an update was installed without any icon notification in the taskbar & then suddenly needed to restart ALSO without a balloon message warning me. So I lost about 2 hours worth of work.

 I'm still having issues though but its with the latest version of Adobe Flash -  sites are not recognizing its installed  - I went to adobe.com forums and that lead me here. There are many posts there talking about this update.

Somehow I thinki its a different problem because I never installed IE10.  But I'm also piping in because someone had said that it must have been installed as "an important update". I can only speak for myself but I just took a look at it and it does say its an important update. Its been on my machine since the end of March.

My post is the one referring to the display port drivers. It was in response to the original question posted as that users was using a USB dock with video that uses display port drivers.  It is not a general solution but a specific one that has worked for me in two different instances and may not apply to you, but that does not mean the solution will not work for others.

Thank you for again responding, & please accept my apologies for not communicating clearly in my previous post. I did not intend to infer that you had suggested faulty drivers for a USB port replicator were the cause of IE10 installation failures. Rather, 2 earlier thread participants had raised the driver possibility, I doubted USB drivers as the root cause, & I hoped to get your read on it.

I chose to follow this thread because in my search for a solution, (over more hours than I'd care to admit) I was impressed by your practice of always responding to questions, even over the course of several exchanges. From previous personal experience, & from reading through numerous other discussion threads, you truly stand apart from other subject matter experts in this regard.

I'm old enough to remember (fondly) a time when the concept of "customer service" meant something different/more than it does today, & a willingness to "take ownership" of an issue was an admirable trait. I commend & compliment you for your adherence to a higher personal standard than is commonly witnessed.

That said, thanks for the additional support resource info; I'll put it to (hopefully beneficial) use.
